Default bad idle and code 6

every once and a while, my check engine light comes on and the ecu shows code 6 which i know is etc sensor (temp sensor). anyways i've had a bad idle for a while now too, and was reading that the temp sensor could possibly send the wrong info to the ecu and cause a bad idle. does this sound like it could be the problem? the idle just slowly falls at a stop to about 600rpms and then goes back up sometimes. the etc sensor is pretty cheap but i dont want to replace it if i dont have too.

could be the sensor, check the connector if anywires are loose. you said this happens intermittently? maybe a wire before you buy the sensor

what engine is this, n car?
