Damn i like that comparison. The head is the major difference. The A3 dont have "True" vtec like you would want. it only has vtec lobes on the intake cam, and not on the exhaust. The A2 has vtec lobes on both cams and work like you would want it too! Sorry just got up

it's just not worth it for several reasons...mainly, the lack of the a3's oil squirters, and less efficient oil pump system.

any info you need on the k20a3, you should refer to http://www.ephatch.com/forum

the ephatch peeps are the masters of a3 knowledge.

Not to mention the fact that the majority of the power that the K20A2 makes comes from the higher CR.

Not much usable power to be made from just a K20A2 headswap.

Save yourself the trouble and go for a full K20A2 swap.

There has never been a Type R k20a2, period. The k20a2 is a type S engine which is rated at around 200hp. The k20a (no number at the end) is a japanese spec K-series and one being a type R engine which has a higher compression ration and is rated at 220-222hp.

Didn't the European-spec Type R receive the K20A2? The K20A is exclusive to the JDM Type R.

Sometimes a lot people, when talking about the A3, say that it only has VTEC on the Intake side and leave it like that. While this is true, it could mislead someone to think that it has a 3 lobe setup on the Intake cam, instead of the actual roller mechanism and the fact that it switches from 12 to 16 valves at around 2200 RPMs.

Not trying to sound like an expert at all (because I don't even own a K series engine), but just felt like pointing this out, because I've seen a lot of folks plainly putting it out like "it only has VTEC on the Intake side".
