Default will a 98 f23 5th gear swap into a 5th gen tranny?

search didnt return the results I wanted. Just wanted to know if anyone has swapped the 5th gear in their tranny to a F-series 5th gear for better mileage.
I know that the older h-series tranny gears wont work I guess because of a diff spline count.

I do a lot of highway miles and dont care about how fast my car is in 5th gear, it is well worth it to me to sacrifice the acceleration of my current 5th gear for something that wont run at 3500 rpms on the highway.

TIA

I have heard it can be done, but would require the width of the gear to be machined down to fit in the case.

i have compared mileage with an m2a4 and a p2a4, which is an accord wagon tranny. the p2a4 has accord gears, so long spacing, but it has a lude final drive.

the mileage diff between the two transmissions was 0 mpg.
