2001 ap1 rear differential question
Hi guys,
I opened my stock differential to change the ring gear that broke and
I assebled it back together. My question is that if you need to set the clearance
between the ring gear and the pinion gear.
Any help??

O ****! u oppened the diff not knowing what u where doing?!? GL its not that easy but u need some special tools to check backlash and gear paint to make shure the contact is good. GL
The car is running good, but a friend told me that you need to check the clearance
between the ring and pinion gear. I will take the differential back off to prevent
it from breaking. The thing is that I always has front wheel drive civics and integra
with b-series and opened the transmission several times, but in those transmission you can't change nothing about clearance. Just take old diff out and put new bak in, so that's why I didn't worry about clearance of the s2000

well they have clearance in fwd transverse tranny seal too, just because you didnt have to fix or modify one in the pass doesnt mean they dont exist.
to answer your question, there's certain lash or clearance needed for the gear, honda sells a shim kit which you might or might not need. the clearance of the shim kit will be determined by looking at the contact the angle cut gear have. it's not exactly replace and forget it thing, it has to right or you can kill the pumpkin in no time.
