Default Climate Control *need assistance*

Sup guys.

Recently picked up a DC and found out a minor issue with the climate control. Maybe someone here can help... The AC and heat works fine. The problem is that #1 & 2 selection modes do not work. Only 3 & 4 work. Any ideas?

Nick

There's a resistor pod mounted in the blower fan housing. There are 3 coils total in it.

The circuit for low speed (1) goes through all 3 coils.
The circuit for (2) goes through 2 coils.
The circuit for (3) goes through 1 coils.
The circuit for (4) goes through 0 coils.

Since 1 & 2 don't work, that means coil #2 is blown.

It's easily accessible. Take off the glove box, and you'll see wires going into a thingamajig which mounts on the blower housing. Remove and replace thingamajig ... ~$40 part at your Honda dealer IIRC.

i also have the same problem but none of my selector switches work. the air comes through the front vents and not through the bottom or through the defrost vents. Any assitance with this would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks!

Sounds to me like there is an issue with the mode control motor, or the dampers, or the levers from the motor that control those dampers.

That's going to be difficult to diagnose without pulling the entire dashboard and heater box out.

If you can remove interior parts, it's not that big of a deal getting the dashboard out, especially if you have the Helms. Once you have everything out of the way, there's only 6 bolts that hold the dash on. It also helps to have 2 people to help maneuver the dash out of the car.

For me, the hardest part is getting the darn emerg. flasher and rear defrost switches out so I can remove the climate control module in order to get to the bolts behind there.

If that is the problem, then probably so. Even if it isn't, it will be 100x easier to diagnose with the dashboard removed.

Possibly, but more likely it is the mechanical parts on the heater box (mode control motor, dampers, and connecting links between each).

The Helms manual should have a process to troubleshoot the heater control unit with a multimeter. Then you can verify if it is working properly and move on to something else.
