Default ASA Rims

Please hold the flaming comments...

I know ASA rims arnt great, obviously, they are cheap!

So heres my situation: Ive been tryin to get a set of stock rims to DD for about a month now, with everything falling through. I have 19 days now until my first AutoX this year, and still havent found a set of rims to DD so that my stockers can take my Rcomps.

Basically I have 19 days until my first event to get a set of DD rims and still have enough time to get my race tires mounted. Im also on a budget of under 1 grand for rims+tires (i will be buying pull offs to dd for the time being). Im on a budget because Im tryin to save for a house to buy in the next year or so. So i dont care what people think of the rims, or how they look really. I know the quality wont be great, and you get what you pay for...

I just really need to know that these rims arn't so crappy that ill crack/bend them in a few weeks. as long as they will hold up to average dd abuse, thats fine by me. Any input from those who know the brand would be great. Im not all aobut making my car look go or anything, it was bought to use for autox and enjoy DDing... thats all.

thanks for the help!

I don't see a problem with ASA wheels *shruggs*. I was planning to purchase some from my DD as well. Not sure how they would hold up on a track though...

Im sure ASA rims are fine for DD purposes, depending on how the roads are around you. i think another set of oem wheels would be the safest bet though...plus they are probally cheaper. have you checked craiglist or anywhere? i bought a set of stock rims with tires for 200 bucks off of there in great condition.

i've seen a couple of ASA wheels and they have a "Licensed by BBS" stamp/sticker on them, any idea why?

I prefer stock, yes, but it seems when your in a pinch, every set of stock ap1 wheels I can find are like 500-600 for lightly scratched wheels+half worn tires + shipping... which comes out to about 600-700. might as well buy the ASA's i figure.

These wont be tracked. the are 17s, and im using my stock 16's i have not for autoX in order to be stock legal.

I just heard about that bbs thing as well on my local forum. interesting.

looks like 4 ASA's plus i found 4 50-60% tread Azenis RT-615's for $200 is the way to go.

They license some of their designs and manufacturing technology from BBS. The ASA AR1 is a cast version of the RS series (RS-GT maybe? or the RS-R). BBS is forged and much more expensive, as well as being several pounds lighter. Still, the ASA is quite nice and unlike Rota knock-offs, the design licensed and approved by BBS. They are very affordable new. I have a set of four 17x8+45 AR1s as my street/DD wheels.

The ASA FR1 is a lightweight, but affordable forged wheel. Good luck finding them, but they were also imported by Shuk as the WR1 wheel. It's the only wide-fitment forged wheel in the correct S2000 offsets under $500 each. The design isn't very distinctive, but fits perfectly. I have a set of the FR1 in 17x8+48 and 17x9+63. Awesome track wheel.

i used to own them. they are heavy but never had any problems. good luck! good luck w the house too. i don't think u'll have any problems.

(personally i'd buy rota's if on a budget...they may be cheaper and better)

buy AP2 V1 with decent tires for ~$700. S2K spec RPF1's with good tires go for just under $1k.
