'97 LX engine cuts out when diving.
My wifes Accord runs good, but intermittently cuts out. It just stops running. The engine doesn't bog down as if it's not getting fuel, it just stops. I've changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and ignition rotor and it seemed to work for a little while but the problem came back. The instrument cluster goes out, but the horn and emergency blinkers work. When I turn the key to restart it, the instrument lights will flicker and give me a rapid clicking sound. So far, it restartes a few minuets after dying to get me home, but only after several trys. I kind of think its an ignition switch issue, but I don't know. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
not sure if this helps but I had a similar problem where the car would stop intermittently as well, the problem was the ignition module....however you also stated that the ignition had a clicking sound at times, there was a recall on accords from 97 to .....(not sure what year) for the ignition switches, just read the pdf for more info on that http://www.driveaccord.net/PDF/ignition_switch.pdf
i had the same prob that u had and tried everything that uv done and replaced the battery bam prob solved that was my prob it may not help for u but itd only happen when u would do sumthin that caused the battery to use exces power that the battery didn have and kill the engine didn make since to me but it fixed it
I had the same problem with my old automatic,,, it turns out it was the TCM transmission control unit, i got one from a junkyard for 30 bucks,, brand new they were 2-300 bucks,, and the recall on the accord was 98-99 they replaced it for free
i may be wrong on the years
i may be wrong on the years
The transmission was replaced about a year ago so the TMC sounds interesting. I changed the battery out about six months ago so I hope its not that. I'm not finding the main relay in my Haynes, are those difficult to change?
