my understanding is hids take a few second to warm up, making them impractical for high beams. cause you cant flash em.

It's also really really bad to turn HIDs on and off and on and off...it severely shortens their life.

Blahblah718293 is right though...they do take a couple of seconds to warm up, and they're pretty much useless until they do, so if you flash them, they won't get very bright to begin with, and you'll kill the life of the lights.

If you ask me, it's plainly a bad idea, cause the only time they'll ever be of any use is if they're on for more than 5 seconds, and if you don't cycle them on and off a lot...which isn't reasonably possible with high beams.

i know its been stated before, but usually for pnp hids you are supposed to have them on for at least 5 minutes, to let the salts warm up and then when you turn them off you should let them sit for 5 minutes to cool off and let the salts cool down. this is why its not that good of an idea to use them for highbeams, flashing will shorten the life and so will many short periods of use.
