Default My turbo Honda XR50 build

Hey guys just thought i would share what i have in the works currently. The bike is a 2002 Honda XR50 that i swapped a Lifan 125cc motor into. That wasnt enough for me so I have decided to turbo it as well
Sorry the pics are kinda shitty but I only have my cell phone to take pics with. The bike was super muddy from when i last rode it so excuse the layer of grime on it lol!! I was using my 110V mig welder to build everything as i dont have enough cash to buy a tig just yet. I kept blowing holes through the walls of the pipe even with the mig on the lowest setting so i had to just do repeated spot welds and then i just ground it flat, it wont matter anyway because im gonna header wrap all the pipes anyway so you would never know. Let me know what you guys think!!

My next project will be building a go kart with this GSX-R 600 engine

The engine is a 4 stroke and there is a place in the head to tap into for both oil supply and return. I dont remember what the turbo was off of, a guy was selling it locally for cheap and i bought it years ago just in case i came across a project such as this.

DSRxSALSA thats awesome your undertaking the same project as me. Im having the opposite problem as you, I cant find a chassis for a decent price.

Ok, but maybe you would still know though, on a two stroke how would you oil these, since the oil is mixed with fuel.

i would run a seperate oil system with a small tank and pump.

Yeah your right, I was going to turbo my skidoo and in order to do that you need a self contained oiling system.

Looking good man! As for the welding, my welder does the same, once you put tack welds all the way around it you can lay a bead over top and it will not burn through the tack welds.

I did a similar project on my 90cc bike and turned out pretty good

On a two stroke its just a big pain in the *** that likes to get the oil really hot. I tried on my old CR80 when I was a little kid. Big suck.

Here's my turbo for a future project.... its the smallest turbo I've ever seen!

It's off a Kubota .75 litre 3 cyl. diesel. Some guy at the shop I worked at said his turbo was bad so he bought this one. He ran it for a few minutes and said the wastegate was broken (BS), so he returned it. The parts department was going to throw it away so I grabbed it instead. I might use it for a turbo XR200 Yamaha YSR.

Why worry about it? The only turbocharged 2 stroke that makes any kind of since is locomotive diesel motors. The intake and exhaust ports are open at the same time so the little boost you did have would just be blown out the exhaust. The only reason that locomotives us them is to get more exhaust out but since this is a carbureted motor it will also be dumping fuel out the exhaust.

The carburetor is in front of the turbo so it does not see boost, as long as he puts in the correct jets he will be fine.

Also can you provide a picture where you taped for oil?

I'm looking at my YSR in a whole new light now. Thanks for that.

Great looking work BTW.

Any issues getting the throttle cable to make that tight bend at the carb?

UPDATES!
Hey guys had some time to work on the bike today so i thought i would throw up some pics of the progress.
I started the day cleaning up some flanges that a friend cut out for me at school with a torch, then drilled holes (that sucked) and then fitted up the work that i did last weekend and tacked it all in place.

A friend of mine came up with a great way to do the oil system and lent his handy work to the project and came up with this. Thanks Jon!

Then the carb, turbo with oil lines, manifold and downpipe were installed.

Thanks to everyone who has lent me a hand with the project thus far, I hope to have it running by the weekend if all goes well! Oh yeah and this past thursday i picked up the kart chassis I will be running for my gixxer kart project.

This is a cool project, I was thinking of doing something similar to my FZR-600.
