Default Question reguarding synchros on my B16 transmission

I am putting my S4C trans back together. I am putting the 3-4 synchro gear back on the shaft (the one that the manual says you have to press on), although I have no problem puttting the gear on the shaft and gently tapping on the shaft to get it into place. My question is, how far does the gear have to be on the mainshaft? If I press it on too far, the gear below it won't turn. Is there a spec for the amount of clearance between the synchro gear and the gear itself? I have the manual but it doesn't seem to explicitly tell me a spec.
Thanks!
