Default VSS issue - Compare cable and electronic - lots of pics - help me out

Facts:

-the tranny is a 1991 SI
-the electronic VSS i dont know what car it is out of
-the cable VSS is from a 1988-1991 civic/crx
-i have a 1997 Integra GSR cluster
-the electronic vss gear sticks out a slight bit more
- the two gear/shafts are different lengths and therefore are not interchangable

Story:

i tried to convert to electronic, and a friend gave me a spare vss, he didnt know where it came from, so i installed it. i have never been able to get it to work (although the problem was likely wiring)

so i grabbed a cable vss to compare, and when i took the electronic vss out of my tranny it was all chewed up on the tip.

the electronic vss seems to be slightly longer due to a gear spacer behind it rather than in front like the cable vss.

another fault of my is the electronic vss was not properly installed, i dont think i had it in far enough. as a result i may have tightened it slightly ****-eyed and could have caused it to grind on something, hence the mashed gear.

the questions:

will this electronic vss still work?
do i need a new gear?
can i replace the gear?
where can i get a replacement?
how do i install the new replacement?
what is the electronic vss out of?

you can use the elec vss you have ive done it and it worked fine you probably put it in wrong like you said. yes the ends are different but it still works. theres nothing you can do to change the end i tried taking apart both but it wont work. ive even seen it in honda tuning when the put a hydro tranny in a crx they did the opposite and it works.

would you say the gear looks like its trashed, or could it still function correctly?

and any idea what that electronic vss is out of?

i would get another one just to be safe if you go to picknpull they fit nicely in your pocket so there only 2 bucks. i think that one is out of a si coupe or teg cause all the ones ive used in the past were out of eg's but the tops look different but the gear is the same. get one like the one you got if you can cause the eg ones are a bit larger and i had to cut it up a little to make it work on a d tranny but they work just fine in a b tranny.

to answer my questions in my thread, the black electronic vss in thoes pictures is out of a d series ek.

and the gears were too trashed out to work, i had to get a new one, but it requires no modification to fit.
