Default Whining Noise while idle (MT)

Hi,

I have a '93 Honda Accord EX 2 door which is making a whining noise when it idles, while the clutch engaged, and a chirping sound while the clutch is up and will do so until I push the clutch in again, but in a few seconds it will start to make the whining noise and the process will repeat itself as long as I want it too.

It has been doing this for the past 8 months and I even had a new clutch put into it (which ended up costing me nothing because the dealership did it for free).

Now the thing is it only makes the noise every once in a while. Sometimes I can drive 200 miles to school and back and it won't make the noise. Other times I will just drive to a fast food drive thru and it will make the noise.

I have taken it into mechanics and they haven't been able to find out what's the matter with it or reproduce the sound. I'm tired of having to pay money for them to look at it when I'm not getting any results.. so if someone could shed some light on this so I can go in and talk to the mechanic about it then that'd be great. Thanks.

New clutch/flywheel?

Transmission fluid change?

What maintenance have you done on the car?

According to the invoice that the dealership gave me they resurfaced the flywheel and put in a clutch kit (which I've been told that it's not the same as replacing the clutch, but the invoice says "Removed and Replaced Clutch").

I haven't had the transmission fluid changed since I bought it so I'll check into doing that.

I've changed the oil every 3k miles and made sure that the fluids were high enough. Other than that I really haven't done much to it. I probably should mention that I bought this from the dealership and it had 148k miles on it.

I can shift just fine while driving... except for having to be almost stopped while shifting into first.

Personally, I'd take it back to the dealership and have them check out the flywheel and clutch.

I'll look into doing that. It's been over 6 months, since they replaced it so I'm not sure they'd do anything and I don't feel like paying the dealership prices.

What I sometimes do is take the car to the Honda dealership for an inspection (like $50) and they will tell you EVERYTHING wrong with it because they want your business and money.

Take that report, fix what you can yourself, then go to a different shop and have them do what you can't.

sounds like a throwout bearing. Make sure they replaced it as well.
Even if the did the clutch disk and the pressure plate if they didn't do a bearing, (which should be included, but is often overlooked) it would cause this to happen. Does it go away if you ride the pedel just a little. I would also try bleading the clutch good, and make sure there isn't something in one of your accessories doing it. This has the halmarks of a ac clutch going out too.
good luck,
Gib
