Default Nor-Cal Mountian Drive...

Hey!

Milpitas, Dave and Busters, Sunday July 14th at 8am.

A bunch of Subie Guys from the I-Club are meeting up to go drive up to the observatory on top of Mt. Hamilton. It should be a real fun drive up the mountian. I'm gonna be there, and wanted to see if anyone else was up to shred some twisties! There will be a lot of cars there, so it should be fun.

Here's a link to more information:
http://forums.i-club.com/forums/show...hreadid=192815

I thought the ITR guys especially would enjoy this one...

Hey, that's my road!

I am not sure that the southern part of that road (from Milpitas to Mt. Hamilton) is much fun. Lots of Camrys doing 10-15 mph on the corners. The northern part (from Mt. Hamilton to Livermore) is another story.

I think the whole thing will end up just being a car show and cruise, cause I think there'll be too many people to drive real fast anyways... But it should be a real good time!

If you guys ever want a mountain drive just north of the Bay Area just drop me a line...I know a lot of really nice drives with beautiful scenery and less traveled roads.

And reefer_bob...they aren't all that far from where you're at either.

Which roads are referring to? I have been on several back roads north of the Bay Area in Sonoma and Napa and found them most to be pretty busy (at least on weekends). My faviorite is the Oakvill Grade road between Napa and Sonoma.

I have also explored quite a few roads in the East Bay and on the coast along the peninsula and, apart from Mines Road (Livermore to Mt. Hamilton), they are too busy to be fun. The road mentioned in this thread is pretty good on a quite winter's day, but during the summer a lot of families from San Jose use to road to head up to the observatory and you would not believe how slowly some of them drive. If you want to see how truly bad Bay Area drivers are you should head up to this road. This road is also reasonably heavily patroled by cops.

Mines Road is incredible. It is a 70-mile round trip from Livermore to the base of Mt. Hamilton and back and there is not a single town on the way. I typically meet about a dozen cars in total. Lots of motorcyclists though, with an even mixture of Harleys crusing and high performance Japanese bikes ripping through the curves.

Nice road...I drive it every couple of months, Oakville is ~10 minutes south from where I work. That's one of the ones that I was thinking about.

I was also thinking maybe the back way into Lake Beryessa(sp), or up through Angwin-->Pope Valley...there are a lot of really nice roads around here.
