just finished the auto to manual conversion and when i go to start it, the engine will crank and sounds about right and after a handful of cranks does what seems to be like a backfire out the intake. my guess is a timing issue since i replaced a head gasket during the swap. can anyone possibly lend any insight or advice as to fix this problem......

 

Double check that the cam and crank are synchronized at TDC.

did you replace the distributor in the correct position?

 

distributor was removed but is on correct. ill check the TDC after work when i get there, i just wondered if anything other than the timing would cause that. just to check, ill set the block to TDC by the notches on the crank pulley?? and ik the head is done by the notches on the cam gear being lined up with the head. i just dont have access to a timing gun and i dont wanna have to go buy one, use it, and return in lol......

 

coil ground wire installed?

 

went through and did TDC all over again and sounds better when it cranks, but still won't start. does the backfire still but not nearly as bad. everything is connected properly but im still lost....... any suggestions??

 

i have the same problem with my d16y7 to d16z6 swap... have u found out the problem yet ???
