1997 honda accord camshaft/water pump problem
I have a 1997 honda accord SE. My waterpump and timing belt were replaced in march 2006. May 2007, I had my honda towed to dealership because it wouldn't start. There was something wrong with my camshaft and it needed to be replaced. Timing belt was fine. Two weeks ago my engine was idling rough (but in no way overheating...gauges were normal). Turned my car on again and the noise/roughness was gone. I was on my way out of town so I took my honda home to sit for the weekend (bc i didn't wanna take a chance on driving it). Monday my honda won't start. My personal mechanic thought it was distributor cap but after replacement car still won't start. He looks around the timing belt and my cam shaft is cracked. I had him tow car to honda dealership bc part still under warranty. Here's the question....honda says my waterpump is bad which caused my camshaft to break? My car wasn't overheating. Can the camshaft breaking cause the waterpump to go bad?
i cant see how the camshaft breaking would break the waterpump, i can see if your pump was bad your car overheating and camshaft breaking. but you said it didnt overheat, so i dunno man.
I don't know about that... I don't see how a bad water pump would break the camshaft. Did they give you a reason why the engine didn't over heater with the bad water pump? And what exactly is bad with the water pump?
Maybe you should have it towed to another dealership for a second opinion.
Also, if the water pump caused the camshaft to break, is that what caused the first camshaft to break? If so, why didn't they catch it then?
Seems fishy to me.
