Default 2006 Blown Motor FTL! Honda Deaerships ar amazzingg!

So hears the story...August of 07 I bought my 06 Civic Left Over (demo) It had about 3500 miles on it Clean, 5spd, Pioneer toucscreen, Kicker Amp and built in Sub, viper alarm.

February of 08 i decide to take a road trip down to north carolina. On the way home I get this uncontrolable knock from the bottom end...All the sudden with 538 miles left to jersey i spun a rod. I get it towed to the cosest honda dealership (goldsboro honda) at 1030 pm, while a salesman is still there just hanging out... and he tells me "there is noo way these motors are indestructable" bla bla...

next morning recieve a phone call from honda, they will be replacing my motor warrenty covered (becuase i had all my oil change reciepts in car). At this point this is where they tell me my car has had a previous owner...funny right? So it wasnt a demo...just a used car with new car paper work (salesman has aleady been fired lol)(lawsuit pending??)

So i hop on the greyhound and bus it back to jersey.

a week later i get the phone call that my car is done.

i take off work the following weekend.. as im renting a car to drive down i call honda of goldsboro to let them know im coming.. service manager says he will move the car to the front of the building leave the keys and the paper work... awesome

15 min later i get a phone call it seems someone had broken into my car (without breaking in) and stole everything. Tore my dash apart and took the whole system, cds, dvds. (they actualy stole my running shoes and timberland boots from the trunk lol) May i add my heat controles lol (heat is now permanatlly on)

Sooo my insurance doesnt want to cover it, becuase it doesnt look like the car was broken into...it looks ike neglagence. Honda doesnt want to cover it but the servce manager tells me "you sure you dont know anyone down here with a key, its like they used a key to get in" wow really mr smart service guy of the year??

Fine... another week goes by and i say [freak] it im going down and bringing it home with nothing in it...just going to bring a ipod for the ride home lol...

I get down there, and service guy of the year tells me... its running great just like neww.. yea until i get 3 min up the road throw a engine code and start misfiring. And its saturday after 4... no one will be in service till monday morning... stuck in NC again ftl.

Luckilly there is a guy working on his own car in the garage that no one knew was there. So as i sit crying in my car he come over and hooks the computer up and fixes my misfire.. wooo hoo back to jerssey...i wish

45 min into my trip i start to build pressure in 5th gear and than it pops out... okay..put it in 4th..it revs out.. wonderful no [freak]in 4th gear. slow down more...put into 3rd.. pressure pop out...i have the car towed back to the samme honda. honda states 4th gear is gone.

I am stuck in north carolina by myself for 4 days before they tell me the part they need for the transmission wont be here for 3 weeks.

fly back home

a week later (not 3) i get a phone call that my car is done and guess what its brand new again. And they think the 4th gear bein stripped is from racing.. oh really? my cruise gear being stripped is from racing?? i told the service man... "you dont even hit 4th gear in the quartermile let alone a light to light race...and by the way i dont race " though the exhaust and jdm sticker might give that away

i go down and drive her allll the way home...

im back in jersey with a upper valve tap, oil leaking from the oil pan and many gaskets, a humming sound that sounds like a bearing, a tranny mount that clunks, and a motor that has a real nice shake to it. p.s. and my bottom end is not new like stated, and they just threw my head and everything back on top...

is anyone else having annnyy problems like this?? i just recently got a lemon law lawyer, being this will be the 3rd strike on the drive train, and over 25 days in a shop??

I think thats correct, but the dealership will probably use the loophole that it was this and that, and therefore not the 3rd strike on any 1 component, but single strikes on an array of parts.

sound to me like you should sue honda for the lemon law. They sold you a used car and haven't given you a brand new car yet. I would be so pissed. Personally I would just get a lawyer and send them a lawsuit and see what happens.

No problems here.

Sounds like the dealership flat out lied to you when they said the car was a demo and not used. Very big difference.

Hopefully at the end you'll end up with a new car. I think you deserve it since the dealership basically mis-informed you intentionally about the car and it's previous usage.

The vehicle is typically known as an unwind or a roll back. This happens when the dealer sells the car to someone and the financing falls thru and the buyer has to return the vehicle. Often dealers sell a vehicle to someone knowing that this may happen and is counting on the buyer finding additional funding after they take delivery of the vehicle. Sometimes buyers become attached to the vehicle and usually do come up with the additional money.

If any vehicle has more than 50 miles when you are considering it, ask if the vehicle was a roll back or an unwind. I asked why my EP3 what 1300 miles on it and they attempted to tell me it was driven from North Georgia to Orlando. I said this was a lie, at 17-40 cents per mile depreciation, fuel costs and costs to pay someone to drive the vehicle would make it uneconomical compared to paying $300-$500 to put it on a carrier. Needless to say they confessed it was a roll back especially after I found trash and personal garments in the cargo area.

It's too bad this vehicle was dumped on you like this. As far as the lemon law goes, it's different in every state. I know in Florida if the car spends a combined 30 or 45 days at the dealer it falls under the lemon law. It doesn't have to be consecutive days, it's accumulative. This is why many dealers try to get you to take the car until parts are delivered. Don't ever do this. Also for every day the vehicle spends at the dealer for warranty work also extends your warranty by as many days.

It looks like you have done the right thing by seeking legal council, I suggest you continue this venue.

thanks for all that... yea its the same in jersey if tha car is in the shop for i think of 28 days combined its considered one... so now its just going to be a long wait. And the dealership finally did confess and say that they did have it sold to someone BUT he bought something else and they never took his name off some of the paper work? now its just a waiting process

Carfax wouldn't show anything. Dealerships don't send off title and registration paper work until the lender cuts them a check. Until the vehicle has been titled they can legally sell it as new.

Agreed, you may be joking about wanting a Mugen but I think it could be done. They lied to you, sold you a used car as new. Honda doesn't want that publicity and neither does the dealership. I'd threaten with a huge lawsuit (hell, all this time stuck down there, renting cars, plane tickets.. you could make a killing) + the fact that they owe you a new car anyways.

On top of what Kidnkorner said......Carfax is only gonna show whether the vehicle has been in an accident where the damage is above a certain %value of the car. Not sure exactly.

I don't believe it shows whether the vehicle has been abused from a previous owner.

THAT RIGHT THERE should have set off a red flag that this car probably WASN'T a demo and was actually used. No dealer around here puts that amount of aftermarket work into a demo vehicle.

Honda has nothing to do with this situation. A lawsuit against the dealership is quite possible based on their misrepresentation of the car as new but this has nothing to do with AHM.

About 90% true. We did have an element that had a DVD system with a gaming system and some other upgrades that our dealership had done up. It's definitely not unheard of for a dealer to dress a car like that. But usually it would be either a showroom car or a higher up managers demo so a Civic isn't a likely car to receive that kind of work.

I can see a DVD w/gaming system installed.....but not Kicker sub, kicker amp, and a full-scale Viper Alarm. And definitely not a touchscreen headunit. Most dealers might do a shock sensor.....but I've never seen one do a full alarm and aftermarket sub and amp install as well as a touchscreen headunit on a demo/new vehicle unless it was already purchased or the customer requested it.

Carfax does show how many registered owners the vehicle has had as well.

Yeah...guess I could have made that post a little clearer. I don't know entirely how Carfax operates.....that's why I said I wasn't exactly sure.

Are you saying that "legally" the dealership didn't do anything wrong? If they knowingly sold a used car as a new one.....isn't that illegal??

I want to know the outcome of this. I'm disappointed that this happened, especially from Honda. Don't beat around the bush and get started on that legal action.

best of luck, and keep us informed

Dealerships hate to do warranty work. So, they said F you and did a crappy job. Sorry to hear this man and I hope you get everything squared away.

heres the update...

i brought her back to honda today, and they gave me a rental to use. Within the hour the service manager called me. Said i have a bad bearing in the back suspension...which is the humming sound... i have a whining from the transmission which was just replaced... i have a rod knock again on the new block... my valves are bent...and im leaking oil from every seal possible. I was 3 quarts low...mind you i just had the new block put in not even a month ago.

So he tells me he doesnt think my warrenty will cover me for a new motor which he knows i need.??? how is that possible??

he also tells me that he thinks the only way i will get through this is to sue to the dealership that did all the work on the car in north carolina for a new car??

any input?? please?? im soo confused

Call American Honda Customer Service at 1-800-999-1009 and tell your story. This is not the type of thing Honda wants their dealers doing.
