Is my motor facked... 30min overheating at idle??????
So I ask my partner to move my car outside.... I figure he would have half a brain since he knew there was no preston in the car.. well ya he forgot and it was overheating for at least 30MINNN Like pure out in the red, Just sitting at Idlle, with NO PRESTON, whatsoever.... When i got outside the motor sounded like it was knocking and wouldnt really rev up,, as if the motor was super tight,, almost seized....
So i let it cool down, put water in the rad to try to cool it down (obviously the water is bolling and straying out since the motor is basically in flames.....
Wait a little, let the motor come down to half ,, fill up the rad with water, start it,, motor seem to sounds fine but water is still staying outta the rad.... I was pissed and left work,, so ill check tomo and see the damage if there is any??
So am I super lucky and its fine,, or is the motor [freak]ed, head blown, gasket???
and its a 05 AP2 with 15K on it

well a car at idle with no colant will overheat..... so it was running for 30min with no colant whatsoever!!
I wanna know how strong these motors are towards overheating,, like whats the first thing to go? water pump? head gasket????

your friend is a moron if he knew there was no coolant on the engine and let the car sit runin'. what a dumb [freak]
i'm pretty sure you are gonna have some major issues with that engine. the wear and abuse that it was just put thru is major. good luck with the repairs and charge your friend for them!

I agree!
I heard a couple of years back (possibly rumour) that honda made their engines complete an overheating test, which they did by removing the coolant from the engine and running them to see how long they could go without blowing. Was told they were running just over an hour before it blew. I honestly don't know how true this is but if it is the case the damage to the motor may not be as bad as it seems.
Again I want to stress that I have nothing to back this up, is just what I was told by a friend who has a Honda obsession so anyone feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

Okay, so what is the answer the question. Why was there no coolant? Were you working on it and just needed to move it? I can understand if you just needed to move it and it was only going to be started for a few seconds.
TO clear up a few thing...
I am a car dealer, I build lots of salvage cars, ect....
I bought the car as a thieft recover, missing body pannels and interior... So i dunno why there was no colant,, I got the car like that.. I was going to put some in but i didnt have any in stock and figured it wasent a big deal since its not like i was running the car longer then a few min at a time moving it arround.... I guess dumb me should have made it a priority rather then way a little to get arround to it....
So im going back to the garage tomo to check on do a compression and leak down test, see if that will tell me something....
Keep in mind the car was at idle the whole time, but for a good 30-40min or so.. so say it takes 10min to heat up.. was probably in the red at iddle for 25Min or so.
Ill give you guys the results tomo,, i guess this will let us know how strong thesse motors really are...
Either way its not the end of the world since i have another complete powertrain sitting on the floor.. but i really dont feel like swaping out the Original motor

I had colant but not long life honda one,, i just didnt pass infront of the Honda dealer..... ARGGGGG
salvage yards some times flush the fluids out, dunno why they would leave oil/tranny juice alone but take out the coolant. maybe the worker was just setting u up to fail

I'm able to make out the story, but seriously, why can't you put this in plain english? Take some time to type.
If you can make it run right, you're lucky. I feel sorry for the poor bastard that buys this car from you, though.
Good Luck, I suppose.
