Swapping gear sets and diff from Hydro case to Cable case whats all involved???
Sorry in advance if this was posted in the wrong section. Contemplating a CTR swap in an early CRX and I was told that the Hydro trans is a bit larger and the mount kits available are for cable shift. To make it happen the best way would be to transfer CTR hydro internals in a cable shift case. Does anyone know what all is involved?? Wil I need a LSD cable trans case or will just any ole case work??

Hasport and others do make kits to allow you to install a hydraulically actuated tranny in the older cable actuated Civics. The tradeoffs are that such kits cost a bit more and they have extra linkages to convert the cable pull into the correct motion for the hydro tranny. The advantage of course, is that you don't have to swap transmission internals.
Edit: What I said here previously did not make sense.
I installed CTR internals in a YS1 cable transmission a few months back. Some good links to get you started if you are interested in going that route:

You will want to start by getting a YS1 case. It does not matter whether you get a GSR YS1 or an LS YS1. The LS YS1's are generally cheaper and have a higher 5th gear which you may want to use. Don't buy a Y1, S1, J1 or other cable tranny because the hydro internals will not fit in these. Make sure you know how to distinguish the YS1's from these other cable transmissions before you go shopping for a tranny. There is a high likelihood that you will run across someone selling a Y1, S1, or J1 as a YS1 because they do not know what it is or because they are trying to rip you off.
I had to grind down the ribs on the inside of my YS1 transmission to get the LSD to fit as shown in the first link above. I do not know if you can avoid that by buying a cable tranny with a LSD in it already. I think the older LSD's have a smaller profile than the CTR/ITR ones, so you may end up grinding down the ribs even if the cable tranny originally had an LSD in it. Since that step was not really all that hard, I would not bother trying to find an LSD cable tranny just to avoid the grinding. I made a template of the LSD profile and used that to guide me when grinding. You could also try placing modelling clay between the LSD and the case to see where you need to trim.
A Helms manual is required. Read all the appropriate sections before you start. It will give you a good idea of the parts and tools you will need. You will need to reshim both the differential and the mainshaft bearings when swapping the internals. The Helms manual has the instructions and required clearances for this.

Wow, pretty detailed articles. Seems to be pretty straight forward though. TIme to pick up my CTR swap and find a YS1 case. Thanks for the info bro!
