the quickest way to remove the 5th gear from a 90 cable s1?
okay. there's a cable 90 integra with a s1 transmission at the junk yard. I want everything I need to change my 5th gear in my b16 j1 transmission to the s1 5th gear. I've been told this can be done.
So, my question is....once I take the housing off the tranny while the tranny's still attatched to the engine, what do I need, and what's the best way to get it off of there while it's still attatched to the engine and the car is lifted about 3 feet up?
Thanks all.

you need the 5th gear (the top of the shaft) from both the mainshaft and countershaft. The mainshaft is easy they just lift off, the countershaft is harder i needed to use two different pullers to get it apart. Also the nut on the top of the countershaft can be tough as it is pounded in like the axles nuts, you may need to pull the whole countershaft and put it in a vice and use a large breaker bar to get it off.
the car sitting on wheels 3-4 feet off the ground. I'm by myself without a engine hoist. trust me. I was out there for two to three hours wrenching at that ***** with a 1/2 inch, some extensions, sockets, etc... but had no breaker bar(biggest problem) or engine hoist. And I had to leave cuz they were closing.
I'd rather have the whole transmission(more spare parts, etc.), but if it's alot easier to just get the crap I need, I'd rather do that. I'm planning on going back there tommorow(provided it's not raining like it's supposed to be). As long as I know the easiest way to get either the whole tranny of just the gears, I'll do it. I just don't want to be wrenching at stuff I don't need to be, or risk breaking something or myself doing it.
thanks for the info though bnorth. I don't have any pullers atm, so I guess I'm going to try to get the whole tranny off again***sigh***
I really need to borrow someone's engine hoist. lol
