Default LS1 V8 M3 Build at Dallas Performance

Have posted a few pictures of this car previously. Just wanted to post up some of the pictures from Stage 1. The car is now running and driving and setting up suspension. The new 427 short block is done and awaiting installation later in the year.

Car still needs a bunch of little work but all in all it is there.

Just uploaded a drive by so it might take a few:

The M bumpers just look so much better

But as a owner of an E36 myself... This is badass!
Good Job to whoever was involved.

That has been done too already. Civette put a corvette motor into a 96 Civic

I'd venture a guess and say the LS motor doesn't affect weight balance as much as you might think. The LS series aluminum blocks are fairly lightweight.

Agreed, but they're 500lbs (dressed manual).

I'd venture a guess to say that the M3's 3.2L I-6 didn't weigh quite that much.

i bet it does being an iron block......... a stock KA from a 240 only weighs like 40lbs less than an ls1 because of the iron block

The M54 engine alone weighs 375lb. I can't find what the transmission weighs, but would assume roughly the same as a T56.

A T56 transmission weighs 140lb, so 500-140=360lb, you save about 15lb in just engine weight.

Yes, actually the weight bias is improved as the E36 chassis is about 5% light in the rear and the LS1 shaves a few pounds off the front compared to the stock iron 6.

Again

that is gangster!! needs some m bumpers and wheels but i know its not done. nice work guys.

how hard is the swap? is there as much fab involved as i might think?

i used to be a regular on the roadfly forums (for those who dont know its a massive bmw message board) and i remember a long while back some guy had an e30 for sale for about 60k i believe....

had a completely redone frame and the entire front end practically was redesigned from the ground up. in the regular 325 body he had shoehorned in the bmw v12 from the 850 and had twin turbos on it. i had to read that ad a few times for sure. i remember it in detail, even now probably seven years later.

moral of story, twin turbo that bish!!!

i didn't miss the point, i'm just noting it's not an m3. its like having an ls integra and saying it's a type r.

with that said, i think the swap is badass.

It's pretty straight forward if you buy my kit:

Kyden, you are correct I just get tired of people like you pointing out something that really makes no difference in a thread like this. If I had said LS1 into E36 BMW how many people know the chassis code? I think M3 sums it up pretty well.

actually it is common knowledge to people. cause m3 could mean anything from 1980 till now.

very nicely done. the kits look very high quality.

I gotta agree kydens LS to Type R analogy though. Saying M3 makes is sound like it's an M3...

He spent 14K after blowing the engine on his other M3 (yes Kyden it is a "real" M3) for a Euro swap and it makes a whopping 240 rwhp.

Better question is why not? These engines make awesome power and you can't beat the sound/reliability/replacement parts cost/availability/economy/etc.
