Default need an opinion/input

currently have a d15b sohc vtec motor. i plan to boost with a stock bottom end sometime in the near future (before the end of the year). I have a spare d16a (jdm sohc vtec) head. I'm wondering if I should keep the head that I have on there, or do all of my upgrades to the old head...

either way im planning on upgrading (all at once):
valve springs
retainers
camshaft
intake mani

if I use the old d16a I'll probably have it sent out and professionally worked on (milling, etc)

TIA

I'm only aware off one JDM D-series engine...the JDM D15B. The D16A6 was a non-vtec '88-'91 Si head I believe. I'd use that D15B you have there cuz it's pretty much a Z6 head. GL!

the d16a is the jdm version of the d16z6 ( i can take a picture of it if you want). but i was just wondering if it would be easier to do these things to a head that wasn't on the car... and if it is would that be a good call.

I would much rather build something off the car than otherwise, so you say it's another Z6 equilvelant...go for it! So what is the head code on that D16a anyways? Just never came across one before I guess.

92 Si D16Z6 5sp------- P08-2 (9/2) stamped on RS of code.
93 Si D16Z6 5sp-------P08-4 (9/3) stamped on rs of head
93 EX D16Z6 5spd----- P08-4
93 EX D16Z6 5sp-------P08-3
94 EX D16z6 5 spd---- PO8-2
94 Si D16z6 5sp-------- P08-3
94 EX D16Z6 5sp--------P08-4
94 SI D16z6 5sp -------P08-5
95 EX D16Z6 Auto------P08-2

just by way of on our off the car, anything off the car is easier to work with, atleast in my opinion. If the heads are equivalent as you say, then work the one thats off, send it out, whatever, that way all you gotta do is ubolt the old and bolt up the new

my thinking exactly, the reason for my post is that im new to engine building, and just trying to get the easy questions out of the way so i can learn more... when you mill the head you need a different hg right?

who cares about fast??? i just care about fun, working on my car is fun, and so is making your car faster... boost+built = fun so what if its not the fastest, it never will be. SOHC parts are cheap and interchangeable which makes them ideal for boost and fun
