hay guys to start out, I traded my 98 ranger for this prelude the kid said that the engine was swaped he said that the engine has about 80k and the body reads at 227,000.. I have changed most wires and gave it a tune up.. but now the cel light is comming on..the car bogges down when I get on it at first and its smokeing like all hell. he said that it needs new valve seals. How much does a shop charge for this?? I did a valve adjustment because it had a knocking sound i did it at.. INTAKE 0.003-0.004 and EXHAUST at 0.006-0.007 is that right?? after i did that thats when the cel light began to come on and the idle is high till it warms up than it dropes to about 900rpm.. What should I do???? I mean i want to car but is it to many headachs??? how can i check if the engine has been swaped?? I'm gunna go pull the codes I tried yesterday but nothing came up.( I know how to get them) I dont understand why.. does autozone do it?? IS the car worth butting all the work in? Incase i dident mention the engine is a H23A1. AUTO. Also when it gets high in rpms it has a buzzing kind of sound and when i'm in 4 gear and i hit the gas the sound comes back WHAT IS IT?????? its driveing me nuts!!!!! Any help or anything would help a lot.. sorry for the long post But since i am a noob i can only post 5 times a day!! wtf!!! well thanks again

 

Autozone will get the codes for you free. The motor has a serial number that should match the VIN# on your lude. If they are different then the motor was swapped. If you have a CEL then it should be throwing a code. You said you did your own vavle adjustment? I don't know how experience you are with engines but if you improperly adjusted the valves you might have messed up the timing. I recommend you take it to a pro if you aren't sure you did it right.

 

yah i had tighten my valves too much and my lude would bog down all the time.......even go dead at stop signs----readjusted them(loosen up a lil) on them and it idles fine... is it smoking that bad u need to get that fixed--- gasket gone bad???? reguardless i'd take a smoking prelude with funny noises coming out of it over a ranger any day of the week............
