Default Run a sway bar without subframe brace?

Can I run a 14mm sway bar without having to worry about geting the reinforcement kit? I can't justify the $200 right now, and its only 14 mm, or its still gonna rip it apart?

Thanks

14mm might as well be a brake line. It's not going to rip out anything.

BTW, a beaks kit is about $80 IIRC. That's good enough for like up to a 19mm bar.

Invidia also makes an entire 19mm bar, and subframe reinforcement, and tie bar combo for $180 at JHPUSA.com. The bar is upgradeable later, I think.

Do you allready just have the 14mm bar laying around or something? If you're actually BUYING a 14mm bar for more than like $10, just save up, and buy a good sized bar/brace combo. A 14mm bar isn't going to do much.

Thanks for pointing out the invidia kit, thats a good deal, if it comes with the endlinks too, not sure. Guess the best deals always go unadvertised

Have you tried it yourself? can't seem to find any reviews on it.

It does come with endlinks. My friend had one on his 98 hatchbox. It worked pretty well....though he did have a 26mm Si front bar...so the rear bar was a little small for his setup.

If you have a 22 or 24mm front bar, the 19mm rear bar should be great. I'd still prefer a 22mm or 23mm ITR bar, though. I'm an oversteer-rotation kinda guy.

The 19mm should balance stuff out depending on your front bar.

you also have to pair sway bars with your driving style, people who blindly buy sway bars don't always get what they were expecting.

I like a little tail happy but not drifter style lol. The invidia kit would be perfect, I contacted them see if they got any in stock.

I think 19 would be good enough for road-course, you can always adjust oversteer by slapping bold tires in the back, and I got couple of almost bold falkens in the garage

As long as there's no heat cycling damage or dry rot, bald tires work better in the dry. The less tread, the better. This is why you shave tires.

yeah that does make sense. So I guess my ek is somewhat naturally tail happy then without a sway bar. the *** end feels like it likes to play recently on sharp cornering, which I though might be due to the almost bald azenis in the back. I could never get my em2 (with no rear sway) to slide like the ek does. weird

shorter wheel base cars are more tail happy. Are you braking while turning? Since the civic is a front heavy car, with front heavy brakes, if you brake while cornering sharply, it will oversteer because of weight transfer.

Also, are you aligned properly? Toe out in the rear can cause really bad oversteer.

yes it only happens during hard braking+turning, but my em2 was never this nice to me . I'm not sure when was it last aligned, I bought it about 2 months ago and it wasn't pulling to either side until I put the flaken rt-615's on it, then it started pulling a bit but I thought that was normal since they're bigger tires and also they had some camber wear on them from before. Will get it aligned after I put the suspension in.

"camber wear"? You mean toe wear?

Whether your car is pulling or not, if you have uneven wear, you most likely need an alignment.

They had uneven wear from before, when they were on my em2.

I was doing an oil change last night and I noticed there's no front sway bar! is this normal?

96-00 hatchboxes do not come with sway bars. Front or rear. If you're getting a 19mm rear bar, I'd suggest a stock EX 22mm or GSR/ITR 24mm front bar. Use EX control arms.

Looks like I'll be making an ASR like reinforcement plate from scratch, $200 is ridiculous for some metal and 2 welds

I'll post some pics once we're done.

find an ex ek in a junkyard and take its front lower control arms, front sway, front hubs/assemblies, and brakes.

the oem ex brakes are almost 1" bigger and gives alot better choices for bigger brakes down the road if you so choose. in addition, you'll have the 22mm front sway too. pretty nice setup, i was able to get all of the above for about $100
