Default gsr motor with ls tranny ????

I found a good deal on a gsr motor without the tranny. But i have a ls motor with ls tranny in my car. Is it worth it to run the gsr motor with ls tranny? Or should i wait until i have enough money to get a gsr tranny? Kinda broke right now too. lol

so right now you have an LS with an LS tranny, i would think that a GSR with an LS tranny would be an improvement, more hp plus VTEC, i would only say wait if you are going to a shop or renting space to do the swap, otherwise drive around new engine old tranny untill you can do new engine new tranny

the gsr engine has less displacement ( about 40cc ) than the LS motor, so it's going to feel like you are driving a slower car until you start crossing over 5000rpm. On top of that, vtec motors typically have a little less low end torque.

If you're doing the work yourself, go ahead. Get the GSR transmission later. You will probably not be satisfied with the results. But if you're paying, hold off 'till you get the transmission.

GSR trans sucks. LS trans sucks more.

B16A or ITR trans is really the only choice.

Ls tranny is no good if your thinking about racing...its just too slow, even when vtec is engaging, your better off with a gsr tranny or an si tranny. Ls tranny is only good if your planning to turbocharge your car same applies with the gsr tranny. If your doing an all motor setup go with the si tranny its way better.

You guys are talking him out of a good deal on a GSR engine because he doesn't currently have the ideal tranny to use with the new engine? Give me a break.

GSR w/ LS tranny > LS w/ LS tranny any day, if you are doing the labor yourself it is well worth the extra weekend to swap the tranny out down the road when you can afford it.

i agree with Ianb go ahead get the gsr engine. and just wait till u can get a better tranny dont miss out cause u cant get everything rite away. i dont know who has the money to get what they want riite away or who can afford to be picky. I sure cant so i piece together my build on the DA until i have what i need. BUT i wouldnt put it in right away. u have to remember the that the ls tranny has longer gears than the vtec trannys n u could fall out of vtec because of it. Dont know how true that is. but none the less get that gsr.

I never said dont get the engine. I just said the LS trans sucks more than the GSR trans (for NA). That's saying a lot. The LS trans wont make you fall out of VTEC with a B18C1 since B18C1 VTEC point is at 4500 RPM. It will, however, pull you WAAAAAAAAY the freak out of the power band....even worse than the GSR trans's 1st to 2nd shift. Eugh.

LS and GSR trannies share the same 1-2 gear ratios, only the FD is different. You should drop to the same RPM with either tranny, it would just take longer to get through each gear correct?

yeah, if only the FD is different, you will just take longer to get thru each gear. But that still sucks. If you're out of the powerband, you'll have to stay there for longer.
