CRX suddenly smokes. Ideas?
I've got an 89 CRX DX with 126K miles that started smoking within the past couple of days. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, just that it smokes a LOT now. Accelerating or idling, it smokes pretty good. As far as i can tell it's not a head gasket issue, the smoke seems to be burning oil. The car doesn't seem to drive any different than before.
Any ideas as to what could go so horribly wrong with no notice?
thanks!

Another question, assuming it's rings or valve seals; safe to drive as long as i keep up on the oil? I'm not exactly in a financial position to fix/replace it ATM.
Thought it may have been the PCV valve but replacing it didn't help. However, when i was checking the spark plugs for oil i pulled the #2 plug and small but steady stream of smoke came out of the cylinder head (i drove it to get the PCV valve about 30 minutes prior). This did not occur when i pulled any of the other plugs.
