Default DIY for Rear Transmission Mount

ok my problem is sometimes when i upshift everything is fine but when i downshift in 2nd and 1st it's extremely hard and i have to double clutch. so i'm guessing it's my tranny mount....by the way this happens especially going into first decelerating at about 5mph...

so, how do i change it and what tools do i need? when i buy it do i buy the whole bracket or no? i have a 97' rs MANUAL...

The tranny mount? That has nothing to do with shifting....all the tranny mount does is keep your engine from rocking, which would cause the car to bump whenever your engine torques. But your problem is totally unrelated to your tranny mount.

How many miles do you have on your transmission? When was the last time you changed your fluid? What about your clutch? Your problem lies with the transmission itself...it could be that your syncro's are worn out and need to be replaced. Not an easy job for a novice.

I suggest taking it to a transmission shop and get their input. Ultimately, you can always replace your tranny for another used one or even a ITR one.

no you just need the mount. my buddy's went out and we just got one from the junk yard. i didn't help him put it in, but he told me it's a bitch. i think it's it's not that badyou might be able to do the poly-urethane thingy into it. but then you have the let it sit for like a day or two so it'll completely dry through.

check all mounts for damage. on my daily gsr i just rebuilt, 3 out of 5 mounts were shot to hell so the engine was more or less just resting in the engine bay , look into inserts like ^ said, and look into what carma said.

i just got done doing this to my car last night. wasn't too hard for me but I had the intake manifold off for other reasons so i could actually get to it rather easy. As far as tools, all you need is a ratchet, 17mm and maybe a small extension.

Tip: when putting the new T-bracket on you can rock the engine back and forth to jam that **** in there. G/l

my transmission has 127,xxx miles on it and just changed the tranny fluid and oil last week on level surface and put in magnetic drain plugs finally(hard to find in person)...don't think the clutch was ever replaced but it rarely slips and seems fine, for the majority of time i drive(when it doesn't, it's prob my foot messing up after being on my feet at work all day)

what fluid did you put in? are you sure its the right fluid?

and also: you shouldnt really be downshifting into 1st... i never do at least, unless im going 5 mph or less.

other than that, the only thing thats gonna help you is a visual inspection of all your mounts, which only you can do.

i use only honda mtf and it smells like cat pee(old and new fluid did)!...
and i only downshift to 1st going 5mph or less like you do...that's when it happens, when i'm barely rolling decelerating on the brakes....it just doesn't feel the same as if i'm downshifting to 2nd going 15-20mph...the way it kicks in is hard

might just be your transmission. does it grind? maybe, the gears or synchros aren't going in smoothly anymore.

yea it's possible it can be the transmission but it never grinds while going into first and at a dead stop or maybe going 1mph it goes into 1st gear like butter-nonetheless i know this is a weird problem and probably won't get it fixed...

i mentioned it here more so that i was curious to see if anyone else has this problem and i appreciate all of the help

there is a reason why you might have trouble going back to 1st gear when still rolling. that's cause your synchros are doing it's job. all manual cars have this. it's kinda like a safety feature. like in stead of going in to 3rd you go in to 1st there is a synchro that well stop you from going into 1st. since your going slow it won't impede you as hard when going back to 1st.

now, when you can put it into 1st at any speed with no problems, then that synchro that is there to stop you is basically gone(or worn out).

so, it should stick, or be hard to put back into 1st when your rolling.

now you say you also have a problem like this when you try to down shift from 3rd to 2nd? that shouldn't be a problem. but if it is. might be your syncrhos are going out on that.

no second is fine and that actually makes sense...i didn't think of it like that...
only thing is that it sucks when your trying to go into first at like 4mph and don't want to burn your clutch in second gear accelerating
