Default Transmission noise, need help

So I searched and looked through a bunch of threads, but they all dealt with only 1 of my two transmission noises. I have the whirring noise when I let off the gas and let the car slow down. Push in the clutch and it goes away.

I've also got another noise when I'm driving at about 75-80mph. Its a metal on metal sound and only happens in 5th gear at those speeds I believe. I can't recall ever hearing it in lower gears at those speeds. Whats weird is I had been using Castrol Syntec 0w30. I switched to Mobil1 5w30 synthetic and the sound went away. Last Thursday I drained my tranny fluid and replaced it with Honda MTL. The sound returned after replacing the tranny fluid. Yes, it went away after an oil change, and returned after a tranny fluid change. I'm sure its a transmission bearing, but I'm not sure which one, and the fact that it went away and came back like it did confuses me.

I'd like to get this taken care of before Expo, so help.

first thought, TO bearing...
Second, internal problem, tear down and rebuild.

But flush it again and see if anything comes out, use a clean white rag to filter the oil as it drips.

Last thought, let someone how knows more take it for a drive and get a second opinion.

Metal on metal wouldn't be a bearing. If a bearing was destroyed and the ***** or needles escape the race, that could cause a metal on metal. When trans bearings go bad they knock. Everyone I have fixed (not counting trannys I've bought just to fix and sell) has knocked either constantly or according to clutch engagement. Never been speed or RPM variable.

Not sure if this helps:

I have replaced my throw-out bearing, pilot bearing and main(inputshaft)bearing and I have this noise, along with a grumble while the car sits in neutral which goes away when the clutch pedal is pushed in. I did not replace the needle bearing next to the input bearing so that may be causing the noise.

I also have a metal rattling sound, but I have not really been able to take a look more closely into this. It comes on at about 4000rpm, however I can't remember if it dissapears after that or not. I'm going to look for a loose heat shield first..

I'm having one of the techs here at work road test my car, and see what he thinks of it. I'm also gonna have him take a look at other things to give me a list of things I should take care of before Expo. I'm fairly sure brake pads wouldn't be a bad idea, along with a flush, but I'm not sure if there's anything else I should look at doing at the same time.

I was going by what people had said in previous threads that dealt with that noise, and what they did to fix it. Honestly, the noise doesn't bother me, and if its nothing wrong, then I won't worry about it. I'm not very knowledgable on engines/transmissions, just what I've researched. I have a few guys here at work that are knowledgable on Hondas, and two that worked at Acura before(one of which is a master tech) and I go to them when I think I have an issue. I'm learning slowly.

I can't recall at this moment, I'll check it out on my drive home from work and report back.

Mine doesn't do it all the time. For example if i coast to a light in neutral and sit at the light it won't do it. If I put it in gear while sitting at the light, then go back to neutral it makes the noise.

On a side note apparantly my GF fixed what was making the metal on metal sound while I was at work.

this is noise is coming from your trans drive shaft. i had this sound too and then my trans locked getting off the freeway and it couldn't even roll. if the noise keeps getting worse eventually you will shred a gear and lock up your trans. fix it now or you will need to get a new trans.
