Default Prelude noob--- is this a good buy??

92 Prelude SI Automatic with 90k miles....

All I know so far is whats on the auto trader listing, the car is 4hrs a way so i'm going to have a buddy look at it tomorrow for me.

"Shows great! A/C is ice cold! Cash special. Smooth as silk! "

Asking price is $3400 + TTT

The car is "Tan" -- but I didn't think they made the prelude in that color for 92, which tells me it musta been repainted at one time or another.

Car fax shows "minor front collision with a parked car in 96, but no structural/frame damage"

Tell me what to look for. $4k is my max so if you guys think i can find a better car for my price range please let me know

I'm going to be getting rid of my bone stock 94 integra ls in order to get this. I know my integra's history and know its a clean car that is in need of nothing but a paint job. But Ive always wanted a prelude, and I figure if i'm goign to put money into something might as well be soemthing I really want.

I just dont want to be inheriting a butt load of troubles.

Thanks for looking guys:

---- the last pic is what worries me most, it looks like there could be some rust there.... any ideas?

Get one with a manual transmission. It's much more rewarding to drive.

its going to be a DD for a while.

plus i kinda think that one thats an automatic has less potential to have been abused over its life.

its gonna be a dd till i can afford to turn it into a project some day at which time its more than likely to not stay an automatic.

i'm kinda looking for an automatic for right now.

my other car is an s2000 (so something a little more tame for a DD is ok for now till i can afford to make it into a project car)

I think that Prelude would work out for you pretty good considering what you want from it. It has relatively low miles and the body looks decent...

How does one get to the godly status it requres to participate in the classified's section of this site??

I've not been on honda tech long, but I've been on acurazine for gotta be about 6 years now (back before it was just an acura-cl forum) then been on s2ki now for like 2 years, and recently joined team-integra to be apart of the integra discussions.

Now since I am trying to sell the integra and move into this prelude I would have liked to have posted this thing up in the classifieds beause I know that its a great car that someone could potentially turn into a niceee vehicle...

I've got all the rep in the world on those boards but no one knows me over here... damn shame beacuse someone coulda really did something nice with it rather than it ending up being sold to some dood's to be his daughter's first car. (my first real offer on it since I put it up for sale yesterday)

Shameless plug i know but i'd really like for it to go a good home its a good car and its treated me very well:

Tax, title, licensing/trade agreement.

And I definitely say go for the integra over the prelude.

If it's going to be a project car there is no reason you need to buy a manual, especially since it's going to be a DD to start with. Just convert it when you are ready. Car looks good.

Prelude > Integra
