Speedo accuracy: Tire size, or Engine/tranny?
i have a b18b1 in my '92 CX...and I know my speedo accuracy is off. My question is this:
Which is the cause of my speedo being off.....my b18b swap, or my tire size? I'm running 185-65-14's...but the OEM CX size is a 13"....does my engine/tranny combo have anything to do with the speedo accuracy?
If I change back to the stock CX tire/wheel combo, will my speedo go back or to get it to read correctly do i need the stock Integra RS/LS tire size? The Speedo reads off the transmission I think, so would I need the Integra size tires to get a correct reading or is my thinking off?

sorry, misunderstood,
the tranny tells the speedo how fast it is spinning (static),
the tires tell the tranny how fast it is driving (dynamic).
so all trannys tell the speedo how fast its wheels are spinning based on the stock tyre diameter.
if you wnat speedo accuracy get stock diameter tyres.

i'd really like a definitive answer....anyone else know? if it's stock civic i gotta hunt down some 13" wheels

no you dont.
you need tyres that have the same outside tyre diameter
not same wheel diameter.
that is why the link above is most useful.
if you have stock CX tyres that are 185/75R13
then if you want 14 inch wheels use 185/70R14 tyres.
simple.

well the problem is i don't know what the stock CX size should be other than it's on a 13" rim....if i knew, then yes, i could figure it out..but i don't know
well i'm trying to find out in the EG forum....but you're pretty sure it should be stock civic size even though i have a Teg engine (which would come with bigger tires of course) ?
stock tire size for a 92 CX is 165/70-13..... overall diam. is about 22.2" with about 947 revs per mile... those measurements wont be exact for all tires but its a decent guideline. hope that helps

oh yeah the integra is a 195/60-14 OD=23.2" rev per mile = 898

hey thanks! i heard somewhere else that the stock CX size is 175-70-13....can you confirm that it's 165-70-13 and not 175-70-13?
also, is the final word that my speedo determines the accuracy and i should get an OEM CX equivalent tire size even though the tranny is an Integra?

I checked out 3 tire web sites and all agreed with that size .... the 175/70-13 is for the DX check out tirerack or any other tire site it will tell you the stock size for just about any car
