Hello.

I checked all tail light bulbs
I checked all interior and exterior fuses

It seems the "small light" 15 amp fuse under hood will blow unless I remove and disconnect the light dimmer switch

Still no tail lights ...

Could it be this switch or some other issue?

I had head gasket replaced a week ago and for several days lights seemed fine

The night the dash and tail lights stopped working happened to be during rain storm

I also noted that the warning buzzer that lets you know you left head lights on after ignition key is turned off stopped working (buzzing) a few days prior to the dash light and tail light problem - which contributed to me leaving the head lights on and running battery so low I needed a jump -

Sounds like you have a short somewhere

The small lights fuse takes care of quite a bit (parking lights, interior,etc)

 

u need a new daytime running light module

replace the light dimmer switch and everything should be fine

 

i have a 90 , not a 97
but i have had this problem
it could either be a fuse under the drivers side
OR
it could be a relay under the hood

 

ya its a fuse under the hood or one under drivers side...check all of them since i cant remember which one..i have had this problem a couple times on my 97, my radio would stop,dash wouldnt light up, and tailights would b out.

 

no need to check every fuse man, you should have the cover with the display of each fuse and its funtion(s), i have had this same problem but the problem i had was a short, i paid a shop 30 to trace it and they found it in ten minutes

 

You guys are not reading.

He's replacing the fuse and it's continuing to blow. Unless he unplugs the dimmer switch (which controls the lights)

When he connects it the circuit is "closed" but he has a short in there somewhere causing the fuse to blow.

Locate the short and you have the problem solved.

 

listen to muffin man. go to a local junkyard and get a few dimmer switches. they are the same in 90-97 accords. fyi.

 

im gonna have to agree with muffinman, same problem in mine and it was a short also

 

To clarify a bit on my post.

Without the dimmer switch in the lights won't work.

That's because the dimmer switch completes the circle if you will, take out the switch and the circle is broken in the middle.

So with out the dimmer plugged in that's why the fuse doesn't blow because it's not a complete circle.

If you've done anything electrical recently or any work on the car that may have had contact with wires I'd start there.

 

I had the EXACT same problem 2 weeks ago in my 95 accord. my dash lights/corner circuit keps blowing the fuse and brake light also wouldnt hold a fuse. By all means DO NOT put a higher amp fuse in.

It turned out to be a short. It actually went down most my main harness under the dash. It shorted out in like 10 or so differnt spots.

I pulled my dash and stripped down the harness looms. remember to disconnect the battery when taking the airbag out. i replaced sections of wire that had to be replaced and taped everything up.

Before you go taking your dash out, id check the wire harness under your steering colum. Thats where i found my short first. Be careful not to cut any wires when you remove the old tape. if you do see a short, then theres probally more to it and thats when you want to pull your dash.

Also check your marker light/brake light harness in the trunk. Especially since it was raining. Good luck!

I had this same problem in my '95 accord turns out I left the dash light wire loose when I changed the stereo.
