Default Little help on looking at a local hatch....

I found this hatch for sale locally and was wondering what the car should be worth and what kinda offer i should be willing to pay, im really interested in this car but not sure on how to appraise it since im not too famaliar with the cosmetic end and pricing. Its a 92 hatch ( pretty sure its a si) but here's what i know about the car:

- ls/v with b16 pistons
- built gsr head
- toda n/a cams
- dc sports 4-1
- aebs intake
- inline pro fuel rail
- msd ignition
- km. gauge cluster

The car sits on tokico struts and skunk2 springs, i havent got to drive the car yet but i hear it drives great. The car hasnt been tuned for the cams so thats also a factor in the price i would think..... 120,000 miles on the shell and 70,000 on the motor.

Here's a few pics so tell me what ya think

MODS: if this is in the wrong forum could u please move it to the right one, thanks!

how much do you trust the person that built the motor? tuning will run in the range of $1,000. to me, the price seems a little high. but then again, who selling a car doesnt ask for a higher price.

$6,3000

Do what you want but theres no way id pay 6grand for a 92,and you dont know who built that motor, could be this guys first motor build and could have [freak]ed up somewhere.

I wouldn't trust it. You don't know if it was put together right. I do a lot of alarms on those rice cars, when I drop down the dash, it's a complete mess. VTEC controllers, Boost controllers, turbo timers etc etc all Mikey Moused together. Working only intermittently, and counting down the days for a fire. Then you pop the hood and cringe even more.

He's selling the car for a reason. The number one reason is because it has a nagging problem that he can't figure out. Or it's a number of small problems and they want to start clean. Or one day he woke up and felt like a clown driving a flashy car like that.

Ask your insurance company what it's worth. Everyone still goes by Kelly Blue Book. In other words, it's worth the same as stock but it's even harder to sell than a stocker.

Always better to buy a stock or very near stock car and spend the money you save on your own engine swap.

i dont think i would spend six for that car. maybe 4,500 at the most. ya but it would be better to buy a stock car and fix it up yourself.

I'd pay that much for it.

well actually the reason for selling it is he is goin back to domestics, he just spend 1200 bucks at a local shop to fix all the wiring that was hacked and they basically rewired and checked out the whole running condition of the car. Talked to them today while i was up there and they said they loved the car but it desperately needs tuned. I belive the price is pretty steep myself..... I offered him 5300 cash ( which i think is rippin myself a new *******) but i would like to have it. And he declined it, so i'll just find another candidate for a DD. Thanks for the help

well there is nothing wrong with the car, i mean im sure of this. the shop even said everything is perfect. They changed every gasket, flushed fluids, checked compression and did the re wire when he bought the car 7 or so months ago. He hasnt changed a thing on it since he bought it except getting the shop to go over it just to make sure everything was solid.... but he's not comin down at all on the price so he can sit on it.

I understand where your coming from and it does make me wana get a virgin hatch and go from there so i know exactly whats done.... so thats the new plan thanks for the replies

hey guys this is my car. everything is fine with the car blueridge motorsports are the guys who put all the seals and gaskets on it for me. the car runs great and the only reason i put that it needs a tune on the car is joseph, the mechanic at blueridge, told me i could make more power with a tune from him. the cams in the car are not working to their full potential. also the guy who posted this thread didnt happen to post all the invoice pics i put online with the car to show all the work blueridge has done for me. only reason i am selling it is because i want to go back to a domestic like he said. thanks

If the car is not tuned its not perfect. With those mods it could be running dangerously lean assuming its a stock computer. Who knows tho. Just offer a low price and if he doesnt take it then move on. Thats how I approach buying stuff like this.
