98 Accord V6 Keyless Receiver Dying
1998 Accord V6:
I have tried a new remote and the thing still only responds randomly. It started with the trunk button not working but now the lock and unlock are failing. I looked at some service documents that place the receiver under the driver side dash, but it is definitely not there. This is a factory installed keyless system. I spoke with the service department at the dealer and they said that it was "built into the car." The man wasn't completely coherent so maybe he meant something else. He referenced the passenger side floorboard.
I need to replace the keyless control unit if it is failing. Is this possible or is the control unit tied to the car via some certain electronic signature?
What is this part called? Where is it located?
Thanks for the help!

Yes the factory keyless is built into the Integrated control and the multiplex control units...Typically we don't have a whole lotta trouble out of these sys.....However, they all break at some point...do all of you door locks work properly??
If there are any doors (including the trunk and hood) open then the sys will not arm.....what Exactly is not working (lock? unlock? trunk-pop?)
does the light on your remote light up?
is your dome light working correctly( control unit see's door switch as input)
Always check all your fuses
If you bought a new remote for a 1998, maybe the batt i old???(just trying to rule out all possibilites) I have seen weirder thing believe me..
Hope this helps

Locks always work.
Unlocks usually work.
Trunk pops RARELY work.
Trunk pops work slightly more often when IMMEDIATELY preceded by an unlock signal.
This is what makes me think it is the multiplex control unit(s).
I've tried the system with like 4 different remotes and all of the remotes have the same problems as mine but only when tied to my system.
Any ideas?

We have had some problems with the multiplex but i can for the life of me remember if was the driver's or passenger side surely not both...I will try to remember when I go to work to check the ETM. give me some time and I'll get back to you
This is one of those times when I clean my work bencch off, grab the ETM and the Service manual, freshen my cup O'joe and pulll up a chair.......Both multiplex control units play a part in the keyless remote sys....no common grounds.... has the car ever been in a wreck??...(body shop woes)...at one time we were replaceing drivers' side multi plex for locking and lighting issues but not keyless..HMMMMM.....do you have any after market accessories (Alarm, remote start, power inverter, etc.....) Just trying to exhaust all possibilites before you go throwing parts at your car.....Have you checked all and I mean all your fuses??
Cleaning my remote helped with the unlock and lock. When i tried the other remotes, the trunk button was the one that functioned equally as terribly on all the remotes. Lock and unlock woes have been the recent addition, but my remote battery had some buildup on it and cleaning it out helped a bunch, but trunk pop still sucks.
Any idea which multiplex control unit handles trunk pop?
I changed out the trunk pop motor a month ago to try to fix it but it was a wasted $40... no improvement at all.
