i painted my stockies today and i used the Mar-hyde Paint Remover. I bougth the gel thinking it was gonna be better but it was a bitch to use and left a green finish on some areas. my brothers have used the spraycan before and they say it works better.
If i was to do it again, i would use the spraycan applicator. just spray it on, let it sit for 1/2 hour and then wash off or use a blade to get the gunk out.
heres a pic of the **** working:

I have used that stuff a lot over the years. It's the ****.
If you can't sandblast the wheels, I would try that stuff. I don't know if the coating on OEM wheels is stronger than on an OEM valve cover but the Tal Strip will make a B series valve cover gleam with two coats.

yeah it is. i thougt it was gonna be quick with the gel but it took 4 coats to get the complete coating off, waiting 1/2 hour in between. needless to say i wasted the whole day painting my wheels. if i had known i would have used the spraycan or just sanded them down and painted. plus because it took so long i wasn;t able to paint the red lip on them...
my brothers have used it on valve cover, both the gel and can and they say the gel works about the same.

Ah gotcha.
A friend of mine powder coated wheels in his spare time for a while before moving to Japan. He had a little sand blasting bay in his garage he built just for that purpose. He said that it got better results than any chemicals he ever used.

Especially that part. Comfort with the procedure can make all the difference in the world.
You should see me pull an Evo8 motor. It's gets the strangest looks because I just do it differently than anyone else but it's fast and works well for me so I completely agree with that statement.

too much work? i could sandblast a wheel in a few minutes! I guess thats also dependant on if you have access to equipment.

wheels were tireless... Although i have seen people lay note cards in the seam between the tire and rim when painting. Obviously that would not work when blasting. If i was to go all the way and paint them right the tires would come off, but then again I can do that for free as well.
