Anybody have a Mugen LSD?
Bought a used Mugen LSD, will need to be rebuilt, at least have the gear oil refreshed. I see on King Motorsports website the oil type required. However, before calling them up, anyone have one and know if there is an instruction/maintenence manual with these things?
How exactly is a "mugen" LSD different? I have a S80 (type R) transmission, and I have installed (ok watched) install a LSD on a GSR. The S80 uses a cluch style lockup design, the Quiefe (Sp?) uses a gear style. I don't know how to rebuild the Quiefe unit, but the OEM unit is repalced with new.
I'm quite positive the differential is not a sealed unit. It uses the same oil in the transmission.
What do you mean? The installtion/setup/rebuild is covered in the Helms manual, but like I said It doesen't cover rebuild of the differential unit, just replacement.

ah, correct me if i am wrong, stock R use a gear type LSD too.
tyson: clutch type LSD do require to use different oil, if u use stock oil, it will make noise while u are turning. i beleive the oil should be 70W-90 gear/diff oil.

Call King and get the manual. It will most likely be in Japanese.
I have one with 60k hard miles and I've never had a problem. Just keep the fluid clean. They do chatter a little bit.
BTW - it is quite different than a stocker.

I have one of the Mugen LSD in my ITC CRX and it does use the same oil as the transaxle. King recommends Redline MTL in these and nothing special for the LSD.
This is a clutch style and I have asked about rebuilding it and was told that they will run for several seasons without problems and so far, that is correct.
Do not run 75/90 gear oil as you will probably ruin the transaxle since this is way too heavy of an oil.
