so i bought this crx knowing id have to fix it up a little. its an 88 crx si with no engine i got for $900cnd. got the car delivered to my dads place and the next morning i go to take a look at the car and start working on it and the muffler hanger fell off the bottom of the floor.. great way to start this build off. so after that i decided to check the floor of the trunk. and as you can see there are plenty of holes in it.
next i took the carpet out and there are a few holes there aswell. the under body is kinda ruff aswell, along with the suspension pieces. so after gutting the car i moved to removing the rear lca's got the first one off no problem. moved to the other side and broke my friends 14mm socket. that was it for me i got pissed and just decided to stop working on it fornow. so now i dont know what to do. i want this car but i dont know if i want to spend the time and money(im an auto body apprentice so i wont be spending too much money ) saving this crx from death.
so i guessi just want some opinions on what you guys would do with this.

umm..
that's a lot of rust. to me i don't think it's worth your time and effort, even if it was for experience. you're going to spend as much time or maybe more as if you're doing a k-swap. that's just my opinion.. goodluck to ya.

i think im gonna try and save it anyways. the trunk floor i can just cut out and put new metal easy. the underside i can just patch some holes and por15 it and undercoat it.

oddly, the body does look clean...except underneath. somebody drove through a lot of salt or something.
it depends on how comfortable you are with the work involved. personally, i would have to put my hands on the car to decide. i'd be torn between patching it up, fixing it right, or just re-selling it

Do you have access to a welder and metal cutting tools? Do you want to undertake a project needing this much work? In the end you most likely will be replacing almost everything under the car.
If you're going to take this project on (which I wouldn't) heres some basic facts.
1) The rigidity of the car will never be the same. You will need a good amount of additional support in the form of suspension bars + cage.
2) Replacing all that floorboard etc will never look right and will require a lot of metal work to get pieces that fit flush, so you might be better off cutting out large sections and leaving those holes for a "full race" style.

the holes arent that big that the rigidity of the car will be compromised.... and if it is theres no way you would ever be able to notice it. i dont plan on racing this car anyways. but i will be cutting most of the trunk out.

No offence but what the [freak] are you talking about.
Once the holes are patched it'll be good enough. It's almost a 20 year old car. No matter what its never gonna be the same.
Generally, the more welds, the more rigid it is. If you strip the seam sealer down its only spot welds, if you stitch it, it'll make it stronger.
