I had an earlier post about the Mugen # plate with an appendage about the rusted lug nuts. I went to my dealer and found out this is a problem with the Mugen Si's. The Mugen Si's do not have Mugen lug nuts, but they are different from the factory Honda lug nuts. That's why they come with a set of factory lug nuts in the trunk to mount the spare tire. If you take the factory Mugen Si to the dealer with the rusted factory Mugen Si lugnuts they will replace them for free after inspecting them installed on the car, and seeing them rusted. They will only replace them once. Even if your going to replace them with genuine Mugen lugnuts, please go to the dealer to have your factoy one's replaced. This is so that Honda realizes they have a problem with the coating and will possibly issue a service bulliten, or fix for this minor problem. Also be sure no one uses an impact gun on them. These lugnuts are to be hand removed and torqed only!

Was it surface rust?

 

Yes it was surface rust. I Was able to rub it off with my fingers. I don't care if you bought a a LX, this is unexceptable on a new car wahtevever the model, or manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, I love Hondas, this is my sixth one. This is my third new Honda. They all rock. Rust on components such as brake rotors, control arms, etc... is acceptable. Rust that bleeds onto your brand new wheels ( or hub caps ) is not.
