Default How do I disconnect the clutch cable?

I'm starting the teardown to replace my clutch right now, but i can't disconnect the clutch cable from the lever arm that goes into the tranny. I can get it to move maybe about half inch if I reef on it really hard. Even if I do disconnect it I'm probably going to have problem connecting it back up when I'm done. Is there a way to relieve some of the tension, that you would recommend? It's a ys1 cable trans with a chance that the cable was shortened too much during the swap (12 years ago). I tried search but didn't find anything helpful.

thanks

Never mind I got it off. The clutch cable fully loosened really is too short.
