Default E-Brake Handle Cover on a Civic

Hey, maybe this is a dumb question, but how do you install an E-Brake cover on a 98 civic? Do you have to take a hacksaw to your existing e-brake cover and cut it off? the cover I have is not large enough to slide over the existing handle. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I don't have my haynes (yes I know it sucks) but, I am almost positive you don't hack it off.

Perhaps I should mention that it's one of those aftermarket ones, I will be replacing the stock grey cover w/ the new metallic one.

I'm pretty sure that Kwik2nec is right you don't want to try and cut it off because you may damage something that you don't want to, try his method and if it doesn't work take it to a shop that deals with these things. It may cost you some pocket change to have done but it is better than having to replace the emergency brake handle assembly.

I feel like I'm about to tear the entire armiture out of the console... you guys use any lubricant? was it like insanely difficult to remove the handle? i'll keep trying i guess.

I did mine on a hot day. I took a mini vise-grip, locked it on, and just twisted it back and forth while pulling it out. Takes like 5 minutes max.

I let the car sit in the sun for a few hours, and took a dremel and cut slices lengthwise down the handle, still took some grunt, but it came off

I installed an ebrake cover on my 92 civic a couple years ago. I just got a hacksaw and cut the old cover off. It took a while and I had to be careful, but in the end it came out fine.
