review: PIC Select P3
knowing that my Quantum RMs are on their way out
, i've been aching to try out the PIC Select P3s with 12k up front and 10k in the rear (665lbs/550lbs)
they arrived nicely packaged

the fit and finish are on par with other high end coilovers i've had in the past

the roads up here in canadia are notoriously bad for frost heaves and pot holes, so i spent the last couple of days looking for the most treacherous dips and bumps to test them out. the result: nothing but proper damping across the entire range. i'm confident to say that they fair favorably compared to my Spoon N1s, Ohlins PCVs and Quantum RM Sports in their prime
i let my bestfriend take it for a long drive and even he was surprised thinking they felt good for 10k/8k, though they are really 12k/10k (he ran Cusco Zero 2s)
i've yet to get an alignment but i'll give more impressions once i get a feel for them on the track next month
the good:
- valving suitable for north american streets
- wide rebound adjustment range (the difference between 2/8 clicks to 4/8 is huge)
- no excessive highs speed bump damping resulting in excellent control over sharp breaks in the road
- quiet, compliant ride
- excellent communication with Jim and Al - knowledge know-how and no BS assessment
the only bad i can think of is serviceability? can they be re-valved when the time comes?
up next, this will compliment my T1R b-pipe and Spoon N1 nicely

a big thanks goes to Dave @ Garage Five in Vancouver for the hookups

after having the 12k/14k setup, I would say the 10k/8k is probably a perfect street coilover. the 12/14k were a bit too stiff for me. turn it down a notch with the 10/8k and I would assume they are awesome on any road. I plan to pick up the 10/8k for my next setup.

dude I've got the Toda and the only thing better supposedly is the SMSP, so trust me, it's one of the best headers you can get, great mid range power

i totally agree. the only thing is that i need at least 12k springs up front to keep the front end up under hard braking as the caR will be seeing a few track days and autocrosses this year

ground clearance - close to stock and much better than any 4-1 designs
power - awesome for my mild 1.8
fitment - plug and play and no moving A/C lines, no redrilling holes, no taking off tranny brace or smashing oil pan
quality - the welds speak for themselves
price - the only downside

So just to clarify, it works out on the basis of exchange? I send my worn/blown set back and get some freshy fresh ones in return?

Now go spend some more money on fixing the rust...

John Whitaker is running a 14k/12k setup right now on his Type-R, although they are paired with the appropriate dampers. Maybe he can provide his impression on that setup. From the sound of it, he had a very successful weekend last week with the 14k/12k but I didn't get details.
John W, I thought was running the 14/18 as I am?
PIC's are still great to this day on my track only ITR!
