Oil pressure on a D16Z6. Please I'm begging you for some help. about to rip my hair out!!!
I had a great idea to swap my motor and now I'm really regretting it
Ok I completed a swap about 4-5 weeks ago and have had a problem since it was done.
I put a d16Z6 in my crx and every things great until I get on the highway and get on it.
If the motor stays in the high RPMs in vtec, I get a code 22. But if I'm just driving it easy I don't get the code 22.
Replaced the pressure switch, vtec wiring and ECU and still have the same problem.
I installed a oil pressure gauge today and at cold idle it sits at 50psi at warn idle it sits at 25psi and while driving at 3000rpm it sits at 35-37 psi. If I take it up to redline the oil pressure stays at 35-37.
This doesn't seem right to me.
I replaced the oil pump and installed a used d16A6 oil pan(Z6 one had a huge dent in the front of it) before the install. The weird thing is I bypassed the pressure switch and I still get the code 22???
I'm out of easy fixes and I just want some advise before I replace the pump, oil pickup and possible put the z6 oil pan back on.
<U>Please help me</U>
Thanks

Have you checked your wiring to this switch? trace it back to the ecu, make sure you have it pinned correctly, no broken / pinched wires. Make sure the connector is ok. Use a multi meter to check the continuity of all the wires as well. Make sure you are getting oil pressure to the switch? Is the screen clogged? are you using the correct oil?

I'm using a conversion harness and I replaced the wires from the ECU to the switch and didn't fix it.
Screen is brand new just replaced it last week.
Took the switch out and cranked the car and it shot oil out of the engine bay.
Right oil??? I'm running 10w30 full synthetic

If the wires where wrong wouldn't it do it all the time?
I'm going to pull the conversion harness out and double check all the connectors right now.

no, it will work normally until you would hit Vtec then it throws the code. I had thing happening in my oil burning mini me and when the oil would get too low it would throw the code only when I would cross over into Vtec, but would be normal otherwise.

see the thing is vtec works fine as long as you dont hold it at high RPMs for a extended time. Like down shifting from 4th to 3rd and running it to redline then back up into 4th. CEL will come on at high rpms in 3rd.

here are some questions to keep this going, because this is a strange problem. First, are the block and head both z6 parts? or is this some sort of mini-me.. because if its a mini-me setup, then somebody might have forgotten to remove the oil control jet from the block.. It may not cause the issue that you are seeing exactly.. but it will cause strange oil pressure issues.
Next, your oil pressure seems backwards to me.. your oil pressure should be around 50-60 psi in the upper rpms, and 30-35 in the lower rpms.. so something very strange about this. Where did this engine come from? do you know the back story? has it ever been rebuilt?

Its a Z6 block and a Z6 head. Motor came out of a 95 del sol. The block is original but the head was rebuild and had a P&P done to it.
The only things I've done to it was change water pump, oil pump, oil pan and timing belt.
Last owner of the motor said he was geting a O2 code but I didn't replace the O2 senser and I've never gotten that code. Just the damn code 22.
I'm beginning to wonder if I got riped off.

First thing, this is dumb maybe, but have you checked your oil after leaving your car sit? is it full of oil and still doing this? second, is your oil filter tight? Not tighter than hell, but tight enough so it isnt leaking. if all these things have been checked, then all signs point to the head being bad or messed up.
this may be a lot of drama.. but if it were me, i would be changing the head to see if the problem went away. given the work you have already done, it makes no sense that oil pressure would be an issue. I double checked my statement about oil pressure, and the manual i have for a sohc EF says oil pressure at idle should be around 24psi, and around 65 psi at 3k rpm. So your numbers are BAD.. Did the guy say where the porting was done? or did he do it himself? MY vote is of "no confidence" on the part of the head. Someone smarter than me can maybe chime in to say my idea is dumb, but thats where i would go next.

oil level is right below the top dot on the dip stick when cold.
I'm going to put the orignal oil pan back on and check the pick up. If I still have low presure I'm going to put the original oil pump back on. If I still have low pressure i'll install the stock z6 head I picked up yesterday.
After that I'm done. if its still not right I guess i'll reinstall the **** box A6.
