Default How do you know its time for new axles???

I just recently got my Exedy Organic clutch installed about 3 weeks ago. And from the day I got it done I noticed that my car would make some kind of thump noise, I don't exactly know where its coming from but I hear it around the front passenger side and sometimes on the drivers side. The guy who installed the clutch accidentally ripped the CVboot, I'm not sure if that could be the cause of the problem. Hopefully it's nothing major, the guy said he ordered me a new CV boot and would install it for me hen he received it. I have an appointment with him on Tuesday so hopefully its just that...

talk to the guy doing your CV and let him know what's going on. normally CVs starting clicking when they are about to fail. most the time the boots tear, you keep driving for months, fling all the greese out, dry up the bearings then break one and the clicking starts. if your cv really is bad don't bother with the boot, just talk to the guys at http://www.raxles.com and order new ones.

have the cv axle rebuilt, or at least inspected by an axle shop. plenty of them around.

as stated before with a ripped boot you loose all the grease inside and its just a matter of time before the bearings go out.

my boot ripped recently took it the same day and had it cleaned, instpected, regreased and a new boot installed cost me $12.

I have a feeling you're going to need a whole axle, not just the boot.

You can buy that stuff anywhere. Might have to wait for some of the parts to come in to the store. Or just order it online. I like rockauto.com. Heres a special they have -

Your discount code is:

985861722201

Using Your Discount Code
Enter the code above in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart. If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Apply" button to the right of the field. Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.

Please note: We sometimes get calls from people who put the word "discount" in front of their code and do not get the discount. Please enter ONLY the discount code, no other words or numbers.

The discount takes 5% off our already-low prices. There's no limit on order size or the number of orders. Use the code for your next order, and share the code with friends, neighbors, relatives, the guy at the corner garage--anyone you know who works on cars or trucks.

This discount code expires on June 3, 2008; so don't wait!

I just talked to the guy who installed the clutch today and I told him that I wanted to replace both axles. Hes just gonna charge me the parts +tax and $50 for labor, since he was the one who ripped it. In comparison to pet boys, they're charging me $356 for everything. So Im guessing its not that of a bad idea to get them both replaced, rite?

Go to a parts store where they are lifetime warrantied and buy two, put them in, and you should be set. Also, it wouldn't hurt to check the motor mounts (tranny mount too) to make sure they aren't torn and you are actually hearing the engine slamming up and down....I had that one happen.

Also my car is an East coast car and almost everything underneath my car is rusted due to heavy snow and rain. Is there going to be a problem removing the axles? I live in California...

what do you keep bumping it for? why would you need to replace both, only one is ripped, and its usually a good idea to replace the whole axle when its ripped because dirt and other junk can get in the joint
