i have a 97 gsr with 118K all stock now what weight oil should i be using i believe the owner before me was using 20w50 and thats what ive been using for oil changes. should i be using something specific? ive been thinkin about switching to full synthetic too is there a specific to use with synthetics? searched for answers but i need a straight answer on what to use?

 

Honda suggests 2 oils for the GS-R:
10W-30 (less temperature range)
5W-30 (superior temperature range)

5W-30 is what Honda strongly suggests and is what I use in my 97 GS-R

as far as synthetics go you should be using the same type of oil (5/10W-30)

 

if you took your car to acura for an oil change they would put 10w30

 

Go with Full Synthetic 5w 30 Royal Purple! thats what my Geezer sips!

 

20w-50 is MAJOR OVERKILL!! what in the world was the previous owner thinking
if you switching to 5w-30 you might start burning oil. If your burning now, you definitely will with 5w30

 

5W-30 Mobil 1...you cant get better than that.

You might also want to try the high mileage oil my Mobil 1, since you have over 75k on your car.

i always have and always will use havoline oil. i use 10w30, and a k&n oil filter. thats just me though.
