Hey guys, once the motor is back in the car and turbo kit is all installed, I was considering turning over the crank by hand a few times to make sure it feels smooth and the internals around blowing each other up.

I was also considering taking all spark plugs out and turning the key to turn the oil pump at a faster rate to get some oil throughout the engine (new oil pump) and some oil to the new turbo.

The car might be sitting for like 2 weeks before it actually gets tuned. Experienced guys, is this a smart idea or stupid idea?

 

Thoughts?

 

Common practice once you get the head and timing belt is to turn the motor over a few times and then check your marks especially since it sounds like dont have a ton of experience doing this.

On a fresh motor, Always prime the oil pump by taking the plugs out and turning it over with the starter until you get oil pressure.

Thank you sir. I actually have rebuild the head twice now so I know about turning it over to double check tension of the belt and timing, was more worried about lubricating everything. Sounds good.

 

yep what i do is keep turning the engine over until the oil pressure light goes out and once it does keep it going for another 10 seconds or so. Also if you still have the valve cover off it won't hurt to just pour oil all over the cams and lifters when you fill the engine up with oil. I saw on here once someone didn't lube up their cams/cam holders enough and they got chewed up pretty quick.

 

double check all electrial connectors, (the clips on the back of the intake mani. and on the throttle body will fit in the same sensor so make sure you dont mix them up or you WILL fry you idle control in your ECU)
