THROTTLE BODY SPACER
My friend has a 96 CIVIC EX, and we can't seem to get the damn car to idle down after the spacer is installed. Does anyone know if the throttle body ports are different on that particular year. My 94 does not have the "vien" lines in the throttle body, but his does, I am thinking the new gasket is pinching his air lines because it is not cut like the stock gasket. I would believe this is the problem, we have yet to tear it apart again and try the stock gasket between the throttle body and the spacer, just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem.
I have used both gaskets. I even tried to suffocate the motor by putting my hand over the throttle body, but it still continues to try and rev hard, will not stall out at all. That's why I believe one of the vacuum ports on the throttle body side of the spacer is being blocked by the aftermarket gasket, which is not cut right....I'll have to try it the other way.

i dont even know why i am even posting for this guy, he seems to have no respect for anyone on this sight. just because his question didnt get an answer in 10 mins, doesnt mean that this sight is crap, there is alot of Very smart people here NOFX being an encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to these cars, and others with knowledge in other areas, where you can almost find out anything, givin the time, and given the day. not everyone is on the sight 24 hours a day. with that being said, i really dont think that a throttle body spacer will do that much for such a small displacement motor. now if this was a big v-8 with a carb, yes, putting a spacer on does help. This allows more time for the air and the fuel to mix, before getting sucked into the different runners. but on even that, maybe 1-2 hp. on a motor thats a quarter the size, your not going to see any noticeable gains. since the fuel is being injected right before it enters the head, and the fuel is going to be finely atomized, putting a spacer on your throttle body is just going to say that you have one. its not gonna make you win races, its not gonna take a second off of your quarter mile time, and its not gonna give you any time at the track. so i guess in short, throw it away, and dont be such a dick to everyone on the sight, all you will get back is dick answers.
Spray Seafoam or starting fluid on the points where the spacer meets the intake manifold and the throttle body. If you see white smoke out the tailpipe or if the engine speed changes, you have a vacuum leak there.
If that doesn't work, why don't you use your superior knowledge of physics to figure it out?

This is that same guy?! Wow, you guys really don' t like him. All he did was ask for an answer. He never said this site sucked because he didn't get an answer, it was people were being rude, I read his other string, which he didn't even start, and everyone basically told him he knew nothing because he installed the product and had no dyno sheets, but he claims he does, but that he couldn't post them.... Sounds a little bogus, but he never said anything about huge power gains, just gas mileage. I have never had one before, but it seems like it could help. I had a tornado and it worked, just killed my horsepower. I would think that it would work better than a tornado though, no obstruction of air flow!

Well this might sound
,but have you tried adjusting the throttle cable? I mean since your putting a spacer you bringing the TB farther therefore you would need to adjust the throttle cable.

The company was actually sued IIRC, and had to remove the claims that it increased performance.

NOFX are you sure?? http://www.tornadoair.com still exists, and they still have all of their claims on there. By no means do I support their product, which I have used, but they are still out there. I got better gas mileage, but my car was a freakin' slug afterwards. I've since then, put in an Airaid throttle spacer, I get the same mileage, with no lack in power... I can't complain 41mpg on the highway works for me! Just curious where you found out about the sueing though!!!
I've used a throttle body spacer and a tornado before. I didn't see any results until I put the free stickers on my car. After that is was super fast.

It's allowed to say it improves mpg, but not horsepower.
I can't find the pages on the legal battles right now.

NOFX, if you do happen to find that, I would love to read it! Please let me know! Yeah, they no longer claim anything about power, so yeah, only mileage, which was all I saw anyway. Seeing as how I get asked about it all the time.... I could always learn more about what's going on!
air going into the IM is already atomized by the texture inside the IM. No matter what the air is still pulled in the same way, TB spacer/tornado or not. Its the placeabo effect theyre making money off of.
Its slowing down velocity if anything, and thus making your car = less power/possibly a higher mpg rating.
OEM airboxes are tuned for maximum output, a tornado just defeats the whole idea of factory tuned.

I'm still trying to find it. I'm really sure I found it before.
Here's some other reading though.

Yes, that is a better term. You can atomize fuel, but not air.
