Brainstorming Ideas: What aluminum parts should be made?
Hey guys! Well I work at an aluminum fabrication shop over the summer, and I recently spoke to the boss about making my own products there. He was all for the idea, and told me to shoot him some ideas. I've already suggested building catchcans, but what are some prelude specific parts that you would like to be made? I have a 4th gen, so I would be able to mock up anything... NOTHING is out of the question
I agree w/ connecting rods. A longer rod option would be grand. Spacers with specific dimensions for a 5 lug swap on a 4th gen, and we still need Adjustable UCA's. Maybe that last one is a bit much.
Haha! Just thought of another one. The infamous door handle trim piece that ALWAYS breaks. I bet it wouldn't brake if it were made of aluminum....that may get hot in the sun though....
Edit: 117 beat me to the UCA's

Adjustable UCAs. I could even send you the UCAs off of my parts car so you wouldn't have to dismantle yours. Or any other parts for that matter.

I think the best thing for us would be suspension parts. UCAs, LCAs, knuckles, and this may be a little ambitious, but I think a set of aluminum subframes could drop a lot of weight. The C6 Corvette has them
I don't think I have seen an aluminum steering wheel before either.....

Ditto. Front and rear subframes/crossmembers, anything dealing with the heavy cast chunks of steel in the suspension.
Some guys might be interested in custom intake manifolds

lol.
Aluminum conn. rods are actually made, but they're for drag engines only. They'll maybe last a few passes at best.
Super light though.

I know they are made, but nothing longer than standard sizes (off the shelf). I didn't know they were a drag app. only though.

I hate those damn switch cover things in the doors
. EVERY 4th gen that I have seen has them broken...aluminum or cf would be ****

Battery tray/bracket to mount a PC680. Drop weight with the tray and the battery.
Oil pan baffle kit, crank scraper, etc.
Billet main cap girdle that (optionally?) eliminates balance shaft oil.
Complete oil pan with baffles etc. already set up right for lateral G's.

I was thinking crank scraper also, but didn't dare to be bold.

Cooling plates, catch cans, spark plug covers, airboxes, etc.
How many times have you found yourself drooling over ARC parts, only to find out they mostly cater to the turbo cars? Imagine having parts like those, easily available for our cars. Suh-weet.

airbox would definietly be an option... ill try to get my hands on a sri ( i have a CF chamber)...
sorry guys, i dont think that fabricating connecting rods or UCA's is going to happen

Careful is the name of the game on those. I got along ok w/o ever breaking one, but they've been broken in every other prelude I've seen.
Either way, aluminum won't cut the mustard for those things, that'd be wayy to hard to make.

-coolant overflow tank, one that fits in the factory spot, and could last longer then the s*#ty plastic OEM ones
-a "Prelude" engraved small aluminum shift **** (unless theres one already made?)
-oil pan with small linear cooling fins on it, so it dissipates heat faster

Would LCAs still be an option? I am definitely 100% game for a set. Also, the mention of a relocating tray for a PC680 is a fantastic idea. The one from Password is ridiculously expensive for a piece of metal.

yea im actaully moving my battery from the trunk, to a odyssey 680p up front like i used to have it (on evbecks.com)
I am going to make a battery tray, so maybe i should fabricate a few

From memory, I think it could sit pretty low too, on the frame just in front of the tranny. Really short (light) ground and power lines to the starter that way.

+1 for stylish NON-overpriced parts for the Lude... Its a b*tch to find quality catch cans without getting your wallet raped... well that goes for everything as far as Preludes are concerned. Wow I keep getting mental pictures of the possibilities. You should definitely set up a group buy for anything you make. You get a huge sale at one time and we get reasonable prices. You can count me in.
