Help Obd2 scanner is not communicating with my ECU! failed ref!
ok i had to abort a smog test at the ref because he told me the obd2 scanner wasnt communicating with my obd2 p72 ecu. I rented a scanner at autozone and same ****, its not communicating with it.
Since i still have my obd2 p75 i might try to switch it out, i kno it will throw codes because now that i have a gsr motor it will not work properly, but at least it SHOULD communicate if the obd2 plug is working.
I herd that the obd2 port shares some wires with the cig lighter assembly and that i should check the fuses, but my cig light does work, so i dont think its that.
if anyone knows how i can check to see if the ecu is working, or what might be wrong anything would help. As of right now my car is not throwing any codes and its running fine.

is this a swapped car? did u ever do a motor swap, or is it the original motor, with original ECU, stock harness? if its stock..check your fuses like u said. just use a test light and check all the fuses under the dash. some cars are part of the cig lighter, but others share with something else.
yeah its a motor swap 96 ls to a gsr obd2a. reused ls harness, used a rywire adapter harness that connects vtec solenoid, vtec pressure and knock. NO cels what so ever, the car runs good. I might try replacing the ecu with another obd2a p72.
