mp3/wma aux input
OK lets try again. I plug my ipod into the AUX jack and AUX automatically comes up on the radio display in place of the station I'm listening to. But no music. I have an '08 civic. What am I doing wrong???? Or is it Apple's proprietary format?

The format of the music on the iPod has nothing to do with whether or not it will play through the aux jack. Plugging the iPod in through the aux jack is just like plugging in headphones.
There are a few things you can check. Is the cable plugged in all the way? Is the volume turned up on the car stereo? Is the volume turned up on the iPod? Is the iPod playing? These questions may sound stupid, but they are really the only things that could be causing your problem. That is, unless there is a problem with your stereo and/or iPod.

Great let's not confuse him even more...
What this means is that plugging a car stereo into your ipod is kind of the same as plugging headphones into it. But instead of coming out the headphones, it comes out the speakers

i had the problem. except when i plugged it in it never automatically switched over to the aux. I bought one cable from staples for like 12 bucks and it didnt work, returned it and went to radio shack and bought another and it worked. could be the cable but im not sure
also i noticed the sound is more smoothe when the volume on the ipod is all the way up and u control it with the car stereo, usually between 8 and 12 is the best sound ive noticed.

Okay since I'm not sure what else you've checked here's a small checklist and some notes:
-- The unit auto switching to AUX is normal. The system detects a device being plugged in, hence your ipod. At least that's how it works when I plug in my iphone.
-- The unit does not control your ipod, you still have to have your ipod turned on, have music playing, and have the volume turned some what up.
-- Have the radio unit's volume turned up too.

this should do it... if not, take it to the dealership
