Nice to see someone using their brain and keeping with the factory geometry and independent rear end. (There is no need to go crazy, if a 3300-pound car goes 9.0 and 1.3 60ft then take 1300 pounds out and keep it the same
)
It looks like you have the factory 6 speed in there. The PPG gear set works great and this is even better: http://www.kaps.cz/zavodni.php...g=eng
I hope you have no plans of running the Junk Auto’s, cost too much to run and have **** ratios.
Is this going to be a steel body? That would be really cool.
Good luck with it looks like a fun project that WILL work.

Yes we are using all steel 08 STi body panels. We already broke the ppg gearset at 3900#. The car will come in at 2000# with driver and run the class limit 80mm turbo. We did however slightly change the factory geometry slightly.

we broke 3rd gear / input shaft and the rear on a 2nd to 3rd gear shift on the street with my slicks and on the way to my wedding sept 28th.....no nitrous at the time ... 35# on a gt42
I'm sure with half the weight breaking will not an issue

If your interested I made a new output shaft with powerglide splines and straight cut transfer gears, as well as a modified tail housing to fix that problem. After snaping one in a street car I decided to fix the problem and not to deal with it again. lol

Yea yea yea...lol
At any moment we can cut the rear half off and add in the proper tubing for a nice 9" rear...but im not interested in that any time soon....
BTW....Im anxious for you to come down and wire it for me
It been a long time since we took (drag) racing this seriously so I cant wait to get back on the drag strip...We are really not concerned with sancitioning bodies as much as we are concerned about traveling around to each of the tracks on the east for their version of import racing events...but we may show up to a few Nopi/BOTI races just for the pure pleasure of staging against some fast Modified cars...win or lose...We don't care...

Here is a few updated pictures.
Started the header this weekend and found out I needed a few more tight radius bends then I had. Thanks for all the help from SPD on their great in-stock selection of 321 SS! We have used both Burns and SPD collectors for years, both of which are crafted very nicely but SPD prices made my wallet happier this time around.
The chassis is a roller now......its been rolled from one end of the shop to the other lately...pretty much getting in the way of all the other customer projects in the shop....I have the mid plate machined but awaiting the clutch pkg. Engine is finally done! Aluminum rods were never meant to be in a Suby block! NEVER! Had to remove .250" out of the block halves and .XXX"(disclosed amount) off the rod cap....That was an awkard conversation with the rod manufacturer! I bet the boys in Puerto Rico are dealing with this right now! Since they have ordered a few sets so far....

any particular reason for keeping the rear independant suspension ? as opposed to going with a more conventional rear and rear suspension (4 link)
Yes the reason is thats what makes a Subaru a Subaru.
2. weight savings. what we have built is much lighter then any 4link setup we looked into....even the Strange Modular rearends are heavier. The Ford 8.8 is even heavier too.
3. Budget. At the moment I already had the components to build the indepenent rear in the manner we did.
4. We had Frank at the Driveshaft shop make the rear axles and hubs for us...he spent so much time on them...

i just figured most all racecars were configured in one "type" of fashion. double frame rail/ 4 link/ x link/ solid rear axle. but who wants to spend 20 k on a MW rear !
the car looks cool though
will you be running in the US or is the car being built to run in AUS ?

The Modified Class allows AWD in tube chassis form. Besides that I can race at the local tracks and have alot of fun.
