1967 S800. going to try to fit S2000 engine
Wow, I don't know what to say. First of all, welcome aboard, glad to see another vintage S-car owner here.
I know it's your car, and your money, and you'll do with it what you please, but in my opinion, it's a shame to see an S800 Coupe, with an original S800 engine (perhaps even numbers matching?), get hacked up to fit a "modern" engine.
If it's speed and "modern"-ism that you're after, why not just buy a modern car?

This is going to be fantastic! I have been doing up a budget for a s2000 conversion in my S600 Coupe, there is so much to consider! If the plans come off the drawing board and into action, I would love to share and bounce ideas with you.

I hate to see an old car that could be restored "hacked up," but I will trust that you will do the job nicely.
If it were me, I would graft the S2000 engine and tranny into something that needs the upgrade, like a MGB.

Indeed, the chain drive rear end makes things difficult. I need to see a later model chassis against mine to find out exactly how different it is. I was thinking going 4 link suspension. What do you think about the location of the steering column? The extractors surely would hit it? I know in Australia I will have to use a collapsible column to pass safetly regulations.
Have you seen the one with the turbocharged Fiat motor in it, I think it is... I'm pretty sure that guy swapped in a Ford 9 Inch rear end that he shortened to fit in the car. Judging by the looks of that rear end, it looks possible to do while keeping the chain drive setup in tact...
Oh my.. I love it.. I love every bit of it.. a CARB'D S2K engine? That's sick.. I'll keep it EFI and go ITB's but that's just me..
What a fantastic looking car.. I'm scared to even try looking for one, I can't imagine there are many out there anymore..

a ford 9 inch would probably lift the front wheels of the ground for sure! wouldnt mind seeing that! the 8.8 would probably better suited. but the gears are always interchangable. can't wait to see the fabrication work.

I could be wrong, but it appears that the S800 does not have the chain drive of the earlier S models, which should make mounting a 8.8" (which is plenty for this application) fairly easy.
I am convinced, a S2000 engine in this beastie is a good idea. Are you planning on building a roll cage to hold this thing together?

Interesting question. Are the orginal wheels going to give you enough of a foot print with all this new power? If not, I would not feel bad about using the Ford hubs to get a bigger footprint.

I'd prefer if you took a basketcase and created a hybrid rather out of that rather than irrevocably modify a pretty nice, restorable car.
Its your car, but are there any unrestorable (to original condition) cars available in your area?
Maybe sell this one and get a cheaper unit in worse shape?
If I were able to liquidate some of my cars I'd make you an offer on the one you have.

Nice project. I think this is a perfect candidate for a megasquirt ecu though. It would be much bette than carbs. Check out this link.
