I learned about motors and cars from helping my dad out since I was like 4. It was all V8 stuff. Then I got into the imports and it is pretty much the same ideas and just learned from there.
As far as drag racing I was drag racing snowmobiles before I was old enough to drive. Then my first car I built back in 1994 was an 82 s-10 with a 350 V8 in it. Raced that for a bit then turned it into a show car. Then I built a fiero with a 3.8L super charged motor in it and raced that for a bit before turning that into a show car. Civic will not get turned into a show car though. HAHA

I didnt learn it from my dad. I actually had to hide learning about working on cars from my dad. My dad owned a Firestone Service Center... pretty big one and he was totally against me learning to work on cars. So I had to learn about cars and pretend I didnt know about working on them for the longest time. haha.
I did learn how to run the shop, accounting and pricing out work orders by the time I was 12. haha.

Basics from father and brother
T&A is for someone that has money to waste, I just copy or barrow someone idea that is already working.
Listen to the people that are going fast helps a lot, take notes on what work, does not work, any tricks or ramdom things said.
taking pics of what you can at each of the event, helps to barrow ideas.
reading what I can read when I am bored at work.
helping out anyone to hopefully gain some more knowledge.

Thanks, I guess I now know where I stand, or is it sit.
lol
I started on my Rupp minibike back in 1970 age 15, then on to my 1961 Chevy when I turned 16. When I turned 18 I joined the US Air Force and became a Flightline Jet Engine Mechanic. Got into drag racing at Epping NH then out in CA at Palmdale with Bernie Longjohn.

First car at age 16 was a EF civic. I test drove a 5.0 stang, and spun it on the highway with my dad and the salesman in the car... thats when dad said. Im buying you a honda!
From there went to an EG. I swapped alot of locals cars for dirt cheap, funny thing is i paid DRT to do my own swap lol. After that it was just messing with stuff for a few years. Built a RHD DA integra from the ground up all on my own. I attended UTI, wich was a joke. Didnt learn a damn thing.
Worked for Whip Factory for a few years. Learned alot from Dave!
And the rest was just me taking stuff apart and putting it back together!!!
last but not least... Honda-Tech! There is good info on this board. You just have to find it.

My dad has taught me a shitton, but he wrenches on stock Honda's all day so this aftermarket and tuning stuff I had to learn all on my own.
Oh, and I'm 19 also.

Good Ole Daddy-O! The movie American Grafitti was based on my dad so I was exposed early. I still dont claim to know much. Tony1 has helped me more than anyone in the import scene.

i took auto technology back in my high school days. i went half day in high school, half day in college. i received my certification in auto technology from cowley county community college in ark city, ks.
and i also learned from an experienced mechanic, who happens to be a relative of mine. he has about 25 yrs in auto tech.

I learn the most from my dad, have always got ideas for setups and things from this place, research from books/internet.. most of the time I just jump into projects and force myselft to figure it out though.
